Good lord. Trump is going to lose it when someone reads this Zelenskyy interview to him. giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...
"The block [on attacking refineries] is out.
We're done," Zelenskyy said in a defiant interview with the FT in London. He also lambasted Washington's eagerness to strike business deals with Moscow and President Donald Trump's apparent admiration for Russia's Vladimir Putin.
Asked to explain the two leaders relationship, Zelenskyy said Trump had an instinctive affinity for autocrats and the super wealthy. "He [Trump] speaks about it openly and loudly that he loves such people and he respects such people. Because for him people who can be leaders 20 years, 30 years, 40 years, it means they can be very strong."

Nikita Bier out at X
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster. I'll be stepping back from leading product for 𝕏 and will continue on as an advisor.

Serving the X community has been the privilege of a lifetime. X is, and will remain, the most important communication technology in history. But running this app is a 24/7 job and it's now time for me to take a breather.

The app is seeing unprecedented growth in new users & engagement. We continue to break records every month. We've climbed 70 spots in the App Store since this time last year.

And in the last 400 days, we rebuilt almost every aspect of X: the Timeline, the Android app, onboarding, notifications, chat and more.

We also launched nearly 30 new products while protecting the integrity of the town square: becoming the first app to show Country-of-Origin on profiles and mounting defenses against AI bots. There's certainly much more work to be done, but our foundation is stronger than ever.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible team here. The next leaders will take X to even greater heights with
@benjitaylor
 on design,
@singhai
 on core product engineering and
@dinkin_flickaa
 on mobile engineering -- among many other great people.

Thank you to Elon and the X team for welcoming me into the company. See you on the Timeline.

Very interesting, isn't it?

Georges Rochegrosse (1859 - 1938)
From the moment they were created, the operas of Richard Wagner aroused great admiration, particularly from the artists of the Symbolist generation who took many of his subjects as inspiration for their paintings. Thirsting after an ideal, they were overwhelmed by the power of this musician who brought the great myths and old legends back to life. When Rochegrosse painted The Knight of the Flowers he was pursuing his ambition to move closer to the refined and elitist aesthetic of the Symbolists, and to take advantage of the huge popularity of the English Pre-Raphaelites at that time. In 1894, the year when the The Knight was exhibited at the Salon, he also designed, with Francis Auburtin, the sets for the play The Sleeping Beauty, presented at the Théâtre de l'Oeuvre, with costumes by Edward Burne-Jones. So it is not surprising to see him take his inspiration from Parsifal (1882) for this painting.
Rochegrosse depicts the moment when Parsifal, the chaste hero destined to find the Holy Grail, has just struck down the guardians of the castle of the magician Klingsor. He moves away into the enchanted garden, deaf to the calls of the flower maidens, femmes fatales scantily clad in narcissi, peonies, roses, irises, tulips, violets and hydrangeas.

The judge wrote that, at this time, the woman’s allegations were “insufficient to support a finding that the plaintiff and/or minor child is or are in immediate and present danger of abuse from the defendant.”

The judge ordered that a follow-up hearing be scheduled within 21 days, unless the woman decides not to move forward with her request.

“Researchers estimated that key sections of the [San Andreas] fault in Southern California are at their highest level of tectonic strain in the last 1,000 years” web.archive.org/web/20260717...
A Los Angeles Times infographic titled "A red-hot San Andreas" (from the article at https://web.archive.org/web/20260717160636/https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-07-17/san-andreas-fault-at-highest-earthquake-strain-in-1-000-years-study-finds). The graphic features a topographical heat map of Central and Southern California, with a legend for "Average tectonic stress, in megapascals" ranging from 0 (blue) to 3 (red). A stark, bright red corridor of high stress perfectly traces the black lines of the San Andreas Fault and the San Jacinto Fault, stretching from north of Bakersfield down through the Cajon Pass and San Bernardino.

Text above the map reads: "The San Andreas, in other words, is locked, loaded and inevitable." A subheadline explains that the high stress on these fault sections is a product of having no significant quakes in over a century, and that calculations suggest sections at the Cajon Pass are at their highest strain in 1,000 years. The map also includes a 50-mile scale and plots various coastal and inland cities like Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Lancaster for geographical context.

Tribbles are not for eating
A still from the classic Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles". Captain James T. Kirk, wearing his green wraparound uniform tunic, is buried chest-deep in a massive pile of Tribbles - small, featureless, fluffy round creatures in various shades of brown, tan, and white. He holds one Tribble up in his right hand, staring at it with an exasperated, weary expression. Above him, more Tribbles are tumbling down from an open square hatch in the ceiling.

I may be in the minority here, but I think this was ill-conceived. This part reads like an argument for staying on X/Twitter. What in that doesn't apply to the people there?
Image shows the following text (excerpted from https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/eff-leaving-x):

"But You're Still on Facebook and TikTok?"
Yes. And we understand why that looks contradictory. Let us explain.

EFF exists to protect people’s digital rights. Not just the people who already value our work, have opted out of surveillance, or have already migrated to the fediverse. The people who need us most are often the ones most embedded in the walled gardens of the mainstream platforms and subjected to their corporate surveillance.

Young people, people of color, queer folks, activists, and organizers use Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook every day. These platforms host mutual aid networks and serve as hubs for political organizing, cultural expression, and community care. Just deleting the apps isn't always a realistic or accessible option, and neither is pushing every user to the fediverse when there are circumstances like:

You own a small business that depends on Instagram for customers.
Your abortion fund uses TikTok to spread crucial information.
You're isolated and rely on online spaces to connect with your community.

Our presence on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok is not an endorsement. We've spent years exposing how these platforms suppress marginalized voices, enable invasive behavioral advertising, and flag posts about abortion as dangerous. We’ve also taken action in court, in legislatures, and through direct engagement with their staff to push them to change poor policies and practices.

We stay because the people on those platforms deserve access to information, too. We stay because some of our most-read posts are the ones criticizing the very platform we're posting on. We stay because the fewer steps between you and the resources you need to protect yourself, the better.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again. www.nature.com/immersive/d4...
This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.
