I honestly don't know how fast the squeeze comes. Could be two years, could be five. But if your business sits on a proprietary model, it's worth pricing in now. What do you run locally, if anything?

Honest caveat: local models are worse right now. Slower, dumber, more fiddly. I run one on my own machine and it handles maybe 60% of what I need. That number was way lower a year ago.

This is why I care about open source models. Mostly as leverage. If you can run a model on your own hardware, any price hike has a ceiling. The vendor knows you can walk.

The part that worries me. When Uber got expensive, you could just take the bus again. When the model your whole product runs on doubles in price, there is no bus, and rewriting everything around a different model takes months you don't have.

I've spent years around agencies and tech companies making one quiet argument. Treat people like a commodity and they learn to treat you like one back. Some folks will take the offer. Rent is real, health insurance is real. They'll do good work and keep one foot out the door.

Joining an open-source project can feel lonely, especially online. I think about walking into a church for the first time. A greeter helps you feel seen; clear onboarding shows you how to get involved and, when you’re ready, volunteer. Communities should make that path visible.

I work in hosting, so I think about this too much. My rule is simple. A copy that shares an account, a region or an owner with the original is decoration. And a backup I've never watched restore something is a guess.

We recognize the league's broader logistical considerations, yet this outcome does introduce meaningful player safety concerns by requiring Aurora to undertake extensive travel for all three playoff rounds. It also represents a missed opportunity to highlight women's soccer in a premier facility with a large, engaged fan base.

A statement to our fans:

We are incredibly frustrated that our bid to host the semifinals in Minnesota has been denied. As the only team that traveled for the conference playoffs and with the best record in the league, a premier facility in TCO Stadium, and the strongest fan support in the USL W, Aurora has earned the right to host. This decision disregards player safety and well-being, forcing our team into a cross-country trip from the East Coast to the West Coast, crossing 3 time zones in barely over 72 hours, providing minimal recovery time and significantly increasing risk of injury.

To make matters worse, the League has scheduled the game for 9:30 PM Central — a start time that shuts out our own fans. Despite this setback, we know our fans will be behind us every step of the way as we fight to get back to the National Championship.
