Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 09/08/2026First outing in a while - a golden hour visit to Leighton Moss supplies a a few that fit both #birdoftheday themes #BestFootForward and #ASplashOfColour #egrets #birding 1111
Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 03/08/2026#BirdOfTheDay theme is #firsts so I think this might be my first bird photo. Certainly one of the first. Taken taken on my old Minolta film camera in the 90s. Slightly cheating on subject but there is a #bird in it! 1121

Both have in fact been asked constantly since 2020. But here's a thread on why I think they were wrong and dangerous on school closures 1/12 571605662

Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 26/07/2026#BirdOfTheDay theme is #CHE #cormorants, #herons, #egrets. One of each. First a #GreatBlueHeron feeding a fledgling, A cormorant swimming and an Great Egret in flight 1272
Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 25/07/2026Ok, been a tough summer to make time, but I'm doing this #birdOfTheDay on hard mode with the theme #oneTwoThreeFour with each group being the same kind of bird, and all groups being the same kind of bird #Greylag #geese (the last photo is more than four but oh well - four adults counts right?) 020
Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 25/07/2026I think the problem is they hear that name, go this top doesn’t have a lapel and get stuck. Maybe if we can persuade them to call it a lavalier they will imagine other possibilities. 110
Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 22/06/2026Definitely shouldn’t have all those talented overseas students subsidising all the others and then sticking around and inventing stuff. 000

Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 06/06/2026I wouldn't expect to agree with every choice or the order, and number one is… a choice… but comparing this to the previous "professionals" version I actually think it is in many ways more balanced vs the pros excessive focus on very predictable, older classics 110
Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 06/06/2026For clarity as well - I'm not saying it is pointless or uninteresting to think about patterns are reasons for why someone identifies as a nationality or not, just that the individuality of people makes it something you can't apply rules on an individual level to. 000
Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 06/06/2026We need to get back to simply not-tolerating blatant bigotry and giving it cover as intellectually valid debate. (OK back to might be a bit rose-tinted, back to the trend of increasingly not tolerating it) 110
Michael Maibaum @mike.maibaum.org · 06/06/2026Why should anyone get to define how I (or anyone else) get to feel about my national identity (or identities)? Nobody owns my feelings but me.
