lol, a journalist from Finland's biggest newspaper showed up at Google's office to ask about the illegal logging the company commissioned in northern Finland. Instead of answering his questions, Google called security. That's all anyone is to these companies: a nuisance. www.hs.fi/politiikka/a...

Muse: here. I'd like to place a cake order for pickup today.

I read Muskism. It's a fun book, lots of small valuable insights. What bothered me: Muskism is coined with a wink to Fordism, a regime of capitalist accumulation and regulation. To properly define a "Muskism," you would have to do regime-level analysis, which really is not the case in the book.

the idea that honing your political thinking by engaging in real, public debate with your political adversaries is categorically a type of harmful "platforming" must be one of the most stupid and self-destructive ideas to emerge within the left

Carl Schmitt is fun to read because he engages with his ideological adversaries on the left seriously, in particular Marx & Lenin (anarchists maybe less so). He is not trying to just refute them, but also to learn from them. Compare this to how people on the left & right read each other today.

it's funny that GPT models are called "decoder-only" when almost all of the computation is actually about encoding the input sequence ("the cat sat on the") into a contextual representation–and only the very last matrix maps that representation into next-token predictions ("mat").
