Another try for Maisy Allen 👍

The crowd is very vocally favouring the Eagles. The Jags have got absolutely no love for 13 years of matches in London 😂

Bonkers start to the Jaguars v Eagles NFL game in London. 91 yard TD to the Jags on the first play of the match, ruled out due to loads of penalties against both sides. Two players ejected.

Giving Populations, Largest Support, Local Support and Attendance four separate lines does look rather like rigging the outcome. Plus, I'm impressed at how Ospreys get best league performance when they are apparently under crippling disadvantages in every other category. Inspiring stuff.

Loughborough have selected what looks a very inexperienced team vs Exeter and although the Chiefs themselves have a number of new starters, this looks a win for the home team.

Quick preview of the Jaecoo PWR Next Gen Cup round 4. Leicester look stronger than last week, with Richardson, Lingham and Lindelauf back in the team. Sale look a bit weaker than last week. Still likely to be a comfy Sale win though. Also, great to see Alba Capell back in action.

I notice that Zara "sister of Maddie" Feaunati is in the Auckland team. She's a former Exeter teammate of Allen's. In the same article I also learn that Northland Kauri play in Cambridge Blue, which is as good a reason to cheer for a team as I can think of. so up the Kauri!

Here's the results and fixtures in full. Saracens are a shoo-in to top Pool A, almost certainly followed by Sale. In Pool B, Trailfinders are in pole position ahead of Bristol, but Gloucester Hartpury could yet upset things.

011

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Yeah, apart from the kicking game Bevan has been a big upgrade at 10. And yes great to see competition, good to see a new generation coming through.

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Trailfinders up-and-comers included highly rated hooker Hayley Jones, and also winger Lily Pereira Dos Santos who was last seen in the Saracens academy so there's gratitude for you 😜

101

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Trailfinders too picked a very strong team, featuring the likes of Tanya Kalounivale, Borland, Bo Westcombe Evans, Haidee Head and Tuby Tui. They scored an easy win against a rather hapless Quins team which featured many good players but evidently didn't perform well on the day.

111

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Sarries picked a stacked team with a starting XV that wouldn't look out of place in regular season PWR. They secured an easy 10 try victory vs Lightning, with new signing Ellie Boatman scoring two of them and "50 year old" Poppy Cleall another two. Trylights are here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaAD...

121

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Bristol picked a very strong back line vs Gloucester but in the end it was an all-court performance, with the Bears scoring a whopping 47 points from 10 22m entries. Great to see Phoebe Murray and Ellie Rugman in action. Pip Hendy scored against her former club.

111

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Sale vs Exeter looked the most even match to me but Sale were able to cut loose with ball in hand, Katie Childs scoring a hattrick of tries. It was nice to see Sharifa Kasolo get the captain's armband.

Morwenna Talling needs a old vide-printer style confirmation with 39 (THIRTY-NINE) tackles completed. An additional seven Roses completed 20+ tackles apiece. Despite a vast number of carries and post-contact metres, New Zealand managed only 7 line breaks.

042

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

The stats from England Women vs New Zealand are a thing to bring a tear to Shaun Edwards's eye. England, with 34% possession and 35% territory (per rugbypass stats) put in a massive defensive effort to restrict the Ferns to 19 points off 14 entries into the 22.

254

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

sometimes seems in Canadian women's rugby it's quicker to name the forwards who can't kick than the ones who can

010

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Apart from de Goede, Emma Taylor and Gabriella Nigrelli spring to mind (ok, Nigrelli a back row rather than a lock, but she does also throw in at the lineout so there's that)

100

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

And finally, Canada's red zone defence was superb, restricting the Red Roses to a relatively toothless 2 points per 22 entry. Overall, Canada's performance was not razzle-dazzle (apart from Asia H-R) and was based on very hard work and doing basics well, including an excellent set piece.

020

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Fourth, Kevin Rouet left three of his replacements unused. Given that the team were flagging in the last 15 minutes, this suggests a bit of a lack of confidence in the unused players. in reverse to the RWC Final, Canada kicked for territory a lot more than England.

120

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Second, Canada's backs were a lot more effective with ball in hand than England's, totting up 324 metres off 50 carries. Third, Kiki Idowu did a mountain of work: top ball carrier in the match and equal second for tackles made, playing all 80 minutes.

120

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Some thoughts on Canada Women's performance v England, as informed by rugbypass stats. First, Canada were not the manic, all-action team of the Rugby World Cup. Only 55% rucks in under 3s, and only 4 offloads recorded. The reduced offloads reflects a recent pattern against top opposition.

And having blooded a lot of younger players over the last year, it was a shame Mitchell didn't continue with at least some of them. I guess a North American tour isn't a place for him to start experimenting, so the youngsters will have to wait for the next W6N to get their next chance.

010

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Overall a reasonable campaign for England but they were lucky to draw against Canada (I would not have overturned the AHR try) and lucky to get the win vs the Ferns, who squandered good chances to get a winning lead and could have taken the draw at the end if they had wanted.

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

As for Helena Rowland, yes, super player, forever cursed by her utility value. I'm not sure she's the answer at 12 - in fact 12 seems a problem position for England at the moment. Rowland and Aitchison seem a bit lightweight for the role, while Heard lacks speed.
