Looks like Lizzie Gibson has transitioned very well to international rugby. Looking forward to when she takes over goal-kicking duties from SdG.

The stats from England Women vs New Zealand are a thing to bring a tear to Shaun Edwards's eye. England, with 34% possession and 35% territory (per rugbypass stats) put in a massive defensive effort to restrict the Ferns to 19 points off 14 entries into the 22.

Some thoughts on Canada Women's performance v England, as informed by rugbypass stats. First, Canada were not the manic, all-action team of the Rugby World Cup. Only 55% rucks in under 3s, and only 4 offloads recorded. The reduced offloads reflects a recent pattern against top opposition.

As usual, Matt Merritt @inthecheapseats.co.uk has interesting thoughts on England's WXV campaign. substack.com/home/post/p-... I'll save my thoughts on Jess Breach for another thread but in short, I think she's nowhere near as bad as the chat would have us believe (not including Matt in this btw)

Considering that this weekend is not a WXV sanctioned fixture, so Ireland have the full use of their squad, I really hope we see wholesale changes + debuts

I have had a go at a Lions squad based on two rounds of WXV. Loads of potential Lions unavailable. Really annoyed I haven’t got Alex Matthews in there. Wing is so shallow a new cap was the star, NZ can ruin us out wide. 1/2

This should be a great match! Wales on a high after their excellent win over South Africa. USA on a high after their stunning comeback against Ireland. USA marginal favourites?

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

Mouna Toure looked good coming on as a replacement vs Australia. Good to see her getting a start as France reshuffles to accommodate suspensions. Sophie de Goede out for Canada.

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

Should be a good match this. Italy will be out for revenge, and the Springboks look vulnerable after their humbling by Wales.

And in other news, wow, what a stunning result for USA Women!

Mik A @mikadooo.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Just finished watching France Women vs Australia and oh my word. France going from the ridiculous to the sublime. After the second red card I thought les Bleues were magnificent. PBS, Boulard, Vernier and Feleu all great but Bethoumieu, Escudero and Champon were quite outstanding.

Although there’s the prospect of a decision in 3-4 months, it feels to me that it’d very optimistic to imagine that everything will be resolved by that time.

Some lovely stuff from the Wallaroos - beating England for physicality and Ellis looking very dangerous at 10. England looking very rusty but will still be big favourites to secure the win in the 2nd half.

🧵1. Ireland face significant challenges with some of the new law interpretations. The ruck which is so important to Ireland defensive strategy is being policed to reduce jackal attempts specifically when the tackler is anywhere near the ball or clearing lanes.

The full replay of the PWR final is available on youtube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-blq... Although the score rapidly put the result out of reach for Trailfinders I thought it was an excellent match. Hugely competitive, physical and committed, with great technical detail and skill.

Strong US squad for their first match against South Africa. Although Zackary and Leatherman must be exhausted after the PWR final on Sunday. GPR will be a great captain I think.

211

Hefty departure list from Trailfinders. Zackary, Ponsonby, Taylor, Moore and Norman Bell all particularly significant losses.

"There’s some things happening in the background at the moment that will become apparent in the next few days, but we’re really excited." I fear the worst but ok, let's see.

A quick review of the PWR final coming up on Sunday! On paper, Saracens are massive favourites. They dominate the PWR season stats, with Trailfinders only bettering them in a few categories eg % dominant tackles. Meanwhile, Sarries score much more freely and carry the ball much more effectively.

Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea starred in Super W as a teenager, so naturally she was immediately snapped up by the 7s programme. Which captures in a nutshell the travails of XVs rugby in Australia. Anyway good to see her back in XVs, albeit it looks belated.
