It may sound soft or cheesy to some companies in the Valley. But there is a real advantage in a company with strong positive values.

It seems fitting that 40 years after it premiered I went to watch My Neighbor Tottoro for the first time. The thing that struck me the most was how different parenting and child life were then and now. With a father that would go off to work leaving the kids to play in the village and forest.

I bought a cap from a company with shipping in Latvia and the US. For the color I chose apparently they sent it from the US. The cap cost around 20 euro. The customs about 3 euro. The fees for Belgian "custom formalities"? 21.50 euro. Unbelievable. 🤯

Our internal Build Week at Buffer just finished. I've been part of similar Hackathons/Innovation Weeks/etc before. I’ve heard the expression “weasel words” applied to many terms we use for probabilities. And they are vague on purpose, but are they fit for work context? Here’s an idea: use Fermi numbers, not words to make the message clearer.

I suspect this is a second-order effect of AI making code cheap. Cloud did something similar: distributed systems brought eventual consistency to the masses, and we're still explaining why computers can't always agree right now. (2/2)

🌶️ take from Charity Majors: "that poses an enormous threat to Datadog’s business model, which relies on storing (and charging for) the same data over and over and over and over again in different formats, then storing (and charging for) links between datasets, and all the attendant fees and costs."

Have you heard? Clickhouse is winning the observability wars!
Years ago I predicted that columnar storage would remake observability. What I didn't see coming: vendors would build it, nerf it, and sell a worse version back to you as "Datadog, but cheaper"
