The weird, awesome open space of the Widow Jane Mine, outside Rosendale, NY. It is a vast open cavern (formerly a limestone mine, with a monolithic central supporting column). There is a stage with lights set up on the left of the column, and concertgoers in the foreground to the right.

I saw Beastie Boys/Body Count in Toledo & took an heroic dose of LSD beforehand, but my roommate’s high school BFFWB drank way too much tequila in the parking lot with some sketchy Germans, and I spent the entire show, peaking, in the the first-aid room under the arena, making sure she didn’t die.

Saw Brainiac a few months before Tim Taylor died, at an all-ages show at an American Legion. Afterwards, I was the only “adult” who had his own apartment, so i had to host the after-party. Brainiac spent the whole time asking (ironically?) where they could get some crack.

OK I saw Fugazi at the 13-13 Club in 1991. I had a galvanic headache and my friend gave me some muscle relaxers, so I watched the show from on top of the stage right PA tower (too zooted to manage the pit). After the show, I climbed down, and a girl instantly started making out with me. We dated.
