There's a lot of neo-luddism around, which denies the inter-connected world and thinks a country producing its own needs is the natural order. All part of the struggles of coming to terms with today's global realities.

Both the FT and The Times have major features today on how the world of trade might end for the first time in recorded history, both based on the entirely incorrect assumption that self-sufficiency is more resilient than inter-dependence. Vacuous scare stories. www.ft.com/content/ba80...

The Orange Order could easily return from Drumcree church to the Orange Hall via the Corcrain Road. The only reason to go back via Garvaghy is to demonstrate their “superiority” over the resident community. “Croppies lie down” is not acceptable in the 21st Century.

Britain could choose to join the Single Market and/or the Customs Union if it expects the EU to include it in some way. Why would the EU bend over backwards to accommodate a non member? Britain left the club, not vice versa. It wasn’t forced to leave. Members get benefits, ex members don’t.
