I'm so pleased I had no clue. It's all just endless bloviating. I miss having a president who didn't feel the need to take to a stage every five minutes.

It doesn't matter how much money he has. He'll always be just a needy little boy seeking attention and approbation.

I really really wish I could pick it up (I'm a small indie publisher www.whitedeerpublishing.net) but I don't have the distribution to do it justice. I hope someone jumps on this!

Wordle today.
The Fonze in his tight leather jacket and shorty-shorts prepares to become a forever metaphor as he jumps a shark on his water skis.

So, I should bite the bullet and join so there's more of a chance at a majority and less need for Depends? (I do qualify, that's not an idle threat)

This made my day. I sew, but I could NEVAH sew like that. That fabric is stunning and what a visual fest from both of them. 10/10

I also think there was a joy in it that always comes with something new - and maybe a more ebullient era in general that has now ended.

I really miss the age of salon-like digital spaces where you could exercise your intellect & throw things against the proverbial wall. I grew & learned from reading exchanges on Twitter - especially around cultures outside my own and academic disciplines outside of my expertise.

You know how some people just have that thing where their electronics always break and their appliances never last? Like they are walking anti-matter of some kind we have yet to identify? JD Vance must have that. Maybe we should be consulting astrophysicists for candidate endorsements.

Term limits in all forms of government. Universal mail in ballots. Free healthcare that includes fully funded mental health. Grants for small businesses and artisans. Public art all over the place. Free higher education. Caps on corporate ownership of single family residences. Tax billionaires.

For the life of me I will never understand how she could write about exclusion and belonging and authenticity with such force and then become - whatever vehement twisted and mean thing she is now.

Why the Afroman trial matters, beyond comedic value: - Salving a white woman's tears over the consequences of her own actions is less important than invading the home of a black man. - Redress for the bruised egos of white men is of lesser consideration than the affront faced by a black man.

Michelle Newcome @michellenewcome.com · 18/03/2026
What were they thinking going after Afroman! You don't get in a war of words with a man unafraid to issue unapologetic melodic ditties about getting high. (My personal favorite is also Crazy Rap).

Michelle Newcome @michellenewcome.com · 18/03/2026
My personal favorite is Crazy Rap, but Because I Got High is also amazing. Fair warning - it's catchy and ya gotta exercise some situational discretion when you want to sing along. (as my children pointed out when I was rolling on up in the car pool lane one day)

Can we please retire the phase, "let me be clear" as delivered by nearly every politician in nearly every speech? As a rhetorical device, it is tired. "Clear" is subjective. "Let me" implies that a mysterious other is stopping you. "Be" is saying you weren't already being clear.

Yes, and this is awesome. Now I just hope we actually follow up with action for the midterms. Because even an unpopular president with Trump's proclivity to insanity and venality wields enough power to make life miserable.

And has an inception kernel that could no longer be created because either the knowledge to create it is gone or the tool used is obsolete. We all live in a state of rubber bands, duct tape, and chewing gum and we don't even realize it.

This is patently untrue. GenX. Both of my grandmothers worked as did every female family member I can name. Nurses, bank tellers, teachers, secretaries. Previous generations were farmers - which is hard work for the entire family. This fable has to stop.

How many indie publishers are carrying books that do not sell? How many books are just out there in digital purgatory with no sales and all the back-of-house work? Especially in non-fiction, which is what I mostly publish. What is the opportunity cost in an already stretched budget?
100
Michelle Newcome @michellenewcome.com · 09/03/2026
It takes approx 60 hours per year to do reporting, keep up with metadata, issue even scant royalties, keep your listings updated, etc. for every book. In the digital age we really need to understand that "out of print" should still be a thing.
100
Michelle Newcome @michellenewcome.com · 09/03/2026
And this is so important: publishers cannot market your work the way you market your work. That's just not how it works. YOU, yes YOU, have to support and promote your book. Your reach as an author will always be greater than the publisher - even for big traditional publishers.
100
Michelle Newcome @michellenewcome.com · 09/03/2026
You can change your mind about a work. You can change your mind about your message. You can change your mind about who you want to be. It's okay! But, your publisher holds all the costs to support the book.
100
Michelle Newcome @michellenewcome.com · 09/03/2026
If you are no longer actively supporting your work and it's not selling after a few years your publisher still carries costs.

I read once that Michelangelo was asked to make the Sistine Chapel more “appropriate” (church objected to the nudity) & he answered “simply make the world a suitable place & painting will soon follow suit.”

You have to wonder what circumstances required the addition of the bottom sign that defines what "large" means. And did it have an intersecting point with Herds of Animals? I would very much like to see what the script is for the person answering the phone.
Sign from a road crossing in Ireland. The top sign describes that large vehicles and herd of animals must call before crossing. An additional sign on the bottom has extensive definitions of what large means. The signs are white with a red border and the top of the sign has two red lights.
