Moored up nearer the Barge Inn on the Kennet and Avon for a couple of nights. Crop circle museum on the opposite side of the cut and a heady brew of Pirate-Crust-Funk on the stereo. IYKYK.

An unearthly gorgeous performance here. I went to the funeral of a Thai composer in Bangkok last week. 100 of the composer’s students (!) played the Thai khim along with a recording of their teacher playing over the PA. The overtones were nuts. Video actually caught the sound pretty good.

The Bible. My Nan gave me her copy in ‘83 and we’d pick out places to visit in the Summer holidays with my drunk Grandad behind the wheel of a blue cortina. Still looking for Herne’s horn every time I pass a tributary in Windsor Great Park.

Does anyone else own this LP and get hit with a seismic dose of nostalgia when playing it? PD James Black Tower, Clannad’s ‘Robin’, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, Chi Mai…The sounds wafting in from the TV room when you were meant to be in bed for school the next day.

I know @andrewmale.bsky.social will agree with me on this one…criminally underrated small press British folk that recalls Lal Waterson’s darker songs for Bright Phoebus. Stone Circles, Celtic mysticism and a Tim Buckley cover that doesn’t suck.
