Why does the hard right have such a high tolerance for domestic abusers in their midst?
The ‘stop the boats’ narrative is increasingly presented as if it stems from a concern for women’s safety. This is just the laundering of thuggery

When we biked through Sicily, we saw flowers growing under solar panels with bee hives at the end of each row, facing the road. Evapotranspiration from plants keeps PV panels cooler, improving their efficiency. Panels reduce evaporation, requiring less water to keep plants alive. It’s a win-win

What is even more striking is that data centre demand has matched 93% of the growth in renewable electricity generation (wind + solar + hydro) over the past decade. If we measure since 2020, data centre demand has grown nearly 3-times faster than renewable electricity growth.

We find a strong correlation between right wing votes and delays in bike network development in #paris. Qualitative observations for such a link have been reported in the past, but we now have the data to back it up.
Left: Scatterplot of the share of bicycle lanes built
 against left-wing votes
, Right: against right-wing
votes, with corresponding maps of the voting patterns. The black lines show fitted linear regressions. Dashed gray lines show the average values for each axis.

Quite a timeless & current paragraph on violent expansion vs peaceful resilience:
Some of the first cities or "mega-sites" with tens of thousands of residents, such as Nebelivka and Taljanky in today's Ukraine or Çatalhöyuk in Turkey, had no monumental architecture or elite graves—no acropolis, palaces, or great temples. Humans surely had the usual disagreements, but there are no indications of mass violence or war, nor signs of classes of elite and poor. It does not appear that hinterland farmers dragged crops to these cities to feed urban popula-tions. Rather people built comfortable houses surrounding some sort of community center and engaged in small-scale gardening on the edges of their settlements, where they kept small livestock, cultivated orchards, and gathered a wide spectrum of wild foods. Despite a high population density, they don't appear to have been hungry or stressed.
They governed themselves, making decisions in public forums. People of Taljanky left behind statues of full-bodied women, which earlier archeologists took to be fertility goddesses but now are interpreted to be likenesses of community leaders. Archeologists speculate that female elders led their communities in improving soil, selecting wild plants for cultivation, and inventing ways to use clay and plant fibers to devise tools and clothing for more comfortable living. These Neolithic urbanites inhabited their cities without draining local resources, which means they did not need to take over other people's territories.
In Nebelivka, archeologists postulate that gardeners accelerated the formation of the black earth of the Ukrainian breadbasket. Ukraine's famously rich soils, some of the most fertile in the world, were not a gift of nature but a creation of human ancestors.

This might be one of the funniest chart about energy scenarios I’ve seen. You can hardly see “actual” for gas
Winners and Losers
The IEA overestimated gas growth in Asia and underestimated solar

Gas
• Forecast 547 TWh
• Actual 17 TWh

Solar
• Forecast 465 TWh
• Actual 1,333 TWh

Note: Shows expected growth in Asian power generation between 2018 and 2025, based on actual 2018 generation, actual 2025 generation, and the 2018 World Energy Outlook's Current Policies Scenario estimates for 2025. Actual 2025 generation figures are from Ember.
