So, do I understand this correctly? The person with the least power, who actually cared enough about "the university" – not just ANU, but also the concept – to stand up, do the work, suffer the stress, be maligned by those "higher up" is, in the end, the only one who can hold their head high?

Just remember it's wages *expectations* that the RBA is worried about. And poor Ampol had no choice but to charge higher prices and have profits go up 376%. Good thing it only cost the govt $3.3bn to artificially lower petrol prices, no one else had any need of that money...

I understand that funding bodies want to go all in on AI as the shiny new innovation thing. But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.

I grew up in Katoomba until mid year-two. In 2.5 years of school there I vividly remember heavy snow falls that, at least twice, meant school was cancelled for a day or two. Makeshift toboggans, snow-ball fights, confused pets, frozen toes & snow men with gumnut eyes. Not so long ago, but no more.
