IFTU members vote overwhelmingly to back industrial action
On September 22nd, the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) published the results of the latest Union’s Public Service ballot, with 93% of those voting backing industrial action, saying that “education staff expect a credible settlement on pay, delivery of outstanding Local Bargaining commitments, and protection against unilateral changes to working arrangements”. The union’s executive committee has authorised an initial programme for the strike, beginning with an hour-long withdrawal of labour from university personnel on Monday, October 5th, symbolically World Teachers’ Day.
