I think this might be the easiest way to translate website content. What do you think? 😊

Been doing a lot of content editing on Editable sites over the past few days. At this point, I’m pressing Cmd + E from muscle memory on other websites I visit, hoping they’ll become fully editable. 😄

May be soon time for another attempt to bring syntax highlighted codeblocks to editable.website.

Memory prices are going up. An Editable website runs perfectly on just 256MB RAM. And @fly.io waives invoices under $5, so you can essentially host your Editable website for free. editable.website/can-i-really...

I'm actually happy that computer use works, because that strengthens the position for Editable to be AI-agnostic. Like the tool itself doesn't depend on AI in any way, which I very much care about. Now I can point to a solution for people who want a robot fix their typos.

I do respect the strict No LLM projects such as Zig/Wordgard/... they have very valid reasons in their collab setup. I have my reasons not to be 100% strict, and still apply the same care and human intention as before LLM.

Been reluctant for a very long time, but had to admit there were certain situations where it can really help. E.g. discovered a performance bottleneck in Svedit. Helped with some repetitive tasks I wouldn't have taken on myself. I do carefully review / often retype the code.

Editable has a minimalist single-user architecture, so adding an MCP would require some sort of multi-user realtime collab functionality. With computer use there's still just one user clicking/changing things, so nothing to complicate. :)

Just tried Codex Computer Use to make edits on an editable.website and it works surprisingly well. I told it to "enable edit mode and go find grammar and spelling mistakes on the current page. Highlight first error and suggest what you'd like to change."

Have tried hard but wasn't able to reproduce this behavior in isolation yet. But maybe someone has seen something like this already and have a clue what's causing it? 🙏

Selection rectangle is CSS anchor-positioned. Focal point (crosshair) is relative positioned inside it. Scrolling the wrapping container moves the rectangle correctly but the focal point is doing silly things. Scratching my head... Safari anchor positioning bug?

Good to know! Really need to dig deeper into atproto — hope I get to it soon.

Michael Aufreiter @michaelaufreiter.com · 15/09/2026
With Svedit you manipulate a POJO in-memory (see debug output at the bottom of the svedit.dev demo). Wonder how much of a hassle it is to convert that format from and to atproto lexica used for storage. Maybe something like Svedit could work on atproto schema/lexica directly, avoiding conversion

I'm a fan of dynamic! No cache needed and less moving pieces. :) Wondering how an SSR route that live-fetches from a PDS compares to SvelteKit/Nuxt via Node + SQlite performance-wise?
110
Michael Aufreiter @michaelaufreiter.com · 15/09/2026
Editable might not be an ideal match for that (various reasons), but there could be something similar like it built on svedit and dedicated to atproto as a backend. @danielroe.dev Would an airspace-powered website serve data dynamically from the PDS directly? Or each change triggers a static build?

Michael Aufreiter @michaelaufreiter.com · 15/09/2026
Very interesting! I think svedit could be used to drive editable airspaces. While Editable is meant to drive classic design-oriented websites (thus fully self-contained with SQLite+assets), airspaces could involve community aspects (atproto).

Hmm, I guess the safest advice for now would be to put them into any web-accessible space, and and just link from the page. But legit need to package up some other files with your website. Will think about it!

Ha good question! You could absolutely move some files (like a .pdf) into the assets folder using scp and then just link them. Just need to check that asset purging only touches unreferenced images/videos, and keeps everything else.

Great to hear! To sync content changes from your local computer to the published site, you still have to push the whole DB (it's just metadata) with `pnpm data:push`. Just be careful that you don't make remote changes meanwhile. Also see: editable.website/manual#backu...

This is how you create a blog post on an Editable website. There's no concept of collections or posts. Everything is a page, and you can link them up. And get creative with how you do that.

Overwhelmingly positive reactions to editable.website. With concerns: — Can I really skip the CMS? — Is it battle-tested? — Does it support collections (posts)? — Multi-lang? Planning a series of blog posts, that should help you decide, if Editable's right for you (yet).

Oh and Svelte being HTML-first makes actually accessible for people outside the JavaScript frameworks world. If you know HTML and CSS, you are ready to shape the pixels of your Editable website. 😁

Sure thing. Thank you for the feedback and making me aware. I wonder how I can make this more clear from the wording. In my perception a schema and editable Svelte components make an editable page. And multiple such pages make an editable website. Hence the name. :)

The way this works is that you define a content model (JSON) and for each type you implement a Svelte component. The HTML/accessibility is defined there. This component however is not only used for rendering, but also for editing in-place. So you don't write the website inline, only its content. :)
