I think this might be the easiest way to translate website content. What do you think? 😊

Been doing a lot of content editing on Editable sites over the past few days. At this point, I’m pressing Cmd + E from muscle memory on other websites I visit, hoping they’ll become fully editable. 😄

May be soon time for another attempt to bring syntax highlighted codeblocks to editable.website.

Memory prices are going up. An Editable website runs perfectly on just 256MB RAM. And @fly.io waives invoices under $5, so you can essentially host your Editable website for free. editable.website/can-i-really...

Just tried Codex Computer Use to make edits on an editable.website and it works surprisingly well. I told it to "enable edit mode and go find grammar and spelling mistakes on the current page. Highlight first error and suggest what you'd like to change."

Editable 2.0 Preview 8 is out! — Carousel layout for galleries — Decent tooltips that bring the keyboard shortcuts to attention — Platform-dependent display of keyboard shortcuts — Pretty 404 page — And lots of smaller fixes and improvements...

Selection rectangle is CSS anchor-positioned. Focal point (crosshair) is relative positioned inside it. Scrolling the wrapping container moves the rectangle correctly but the focal point is doing silly things. Scratching my head... Safari anchor positioning bug?

That first editable.website blog post is taking a little longer than expected. But I’m putting a lot of thought and reflection into it, and I think it will answer many of your questions. Soon! :)

This is how you create a blog post on an Editable website. There's no concept of collections or posts. Everything is a page, and you can link them up. And get creative with how you do that.

Overwhelmingly positive reactions to editable.website. With concerns: — Can I really skip the CMS? — Is it battle-tested? — Does it support collections (posts)? — Multi-lang? Planning a series of blog posts, that should help you decide, if Editable's right for you (yet).

Editable — the website you can edit on the page
Editable lets you build and edit a Svelte website without adding a separate CMS. Editors work directly on the page, while the content model, components, layouts, and styling is defined in code.

Editable wouldn't have been possible without @svelte.dev. Thank you @rich-harris.dev, @paolo.ricciuti.me @dummdidumm.bsky.social, and crew for the best framework to power CMS-free websites you can edit on the page: - Tiny editing runtime overhead (thx compiler!) - Surgical DOM updates as you type

For those curious: editable.website runs on a tiny Fly.io machine with 256MB RAM. Content is stored SQLite. Assets are just files on the volume. It's fully self-contained in a `data` folder. I did set a Cloudflare caching rule for /assets/* so all the images and video clips are served from a CDN.

Had goosebumps when I left the stage at @sveltesociety.dev Summit Ljubljana after officially announcing Editable after 3+ years mostly working in isolation. Then I woke up. One can dream... 😛 No matter who’s on stage in November, I’m really, really looking forward to meeting you all!

Been thinking about the "What about AI?" story of Editable. I have an opinion: Use AI to help write the code (content types, layouts) Don't use AI to write the content. I may deliberately not add an MCP, so editable.website sites are positioned as human-written. Wdyt?

content as code (.md, .html) → most flexible, needs compile step, preferred by devs content as data (JSON) → constrained, enables live-editing, preferred by humans I'm working towards the sweet spot. Structure and layout as code, content as data (for humans & agents).

Working on a simple migration API for editable.website. Because docs are stored as JSON-serialized subgraphs, you want a way to easily manipulate that data.

Build your own page builder. That's what editable.website enables you to do. In many cases you'd just tailor typography, colors, and layout, but you can literally change anything in code, and own it. Technical Preview is around the corner. Join: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Just managed setup a script that allows you to deploy your editable.website to a fresh Ubuntu server (e.g. DigitalOcean droplet) in a single command.

We already had types in svedit.dev (via JSDoc) but now made the switch to TypeScript eventually. So in Svedit 0.13.0, you will get property auto completion for node properties, that are derived from your document schema.

Spent some time around tooling for backup and restore of editable.website data. You'll be able to safely pull and push Editable's data folder from local to remote and vice versa. Optionally, you can configure your server for automatic backups to S3 using Litestream.

svedit.dev v0.12.0 is insanely fast (5-1000x gains). Thx @johannesmutter.bsky.social! And you can now attach marks and annotations not only to text, but also node arrays. Marks are exclusive and render as a DOM elements (e.g. <strong>) while annotations (e.g. a comment) can stack as overlays.

After svedit.dev, ProseMirror successor wordgard.net fully relies on input events. New era without DOM diffing! Wordgard also renders selections and carets on its own now, avoiding browser glitches. Here I still hope that this is temporary and browsers catch up. marijnhaverbeke.nl/blog/wordgar...

The last remaining big puzzle piece. In the next version of Svedit, you'll be able to toggle annotations on node_arrays, not just text. In Editable, this enables you to group blocks together to sections, without introducing additional hierarchy, or hacky spacer blocks.

Michael Aufreiter @michaelaufreiter.com · 29/06/2026
Whops. I released but never announced Svedit 0.11.0. It introduces explicit text types, non-destructive type switching of compatible types, and adds infrastructure that helps with implementing things like code blocks (auto-indent, ENTER is considered a newline etc.)

Call me old fashioned, but I'll never buy that complexity doesn't matter anymore, because "the machines" are now taking care of it. If machines can't help us simplify, but merely encourage us to brute force our way through complexity, I can't see this being sustainable?
