Week 10 #ConArtInSitu
While our Monday class got canceled, and our class has finished, I have been reflecting on the class and the art I got to see throughout this quarter. From visiting the MCA and the DAM I found a new appreciation for contemporary art, that I did not have before.
week 8 - 1/20 #ConArtInSitu
Im at the Roses and Birds today by Kiki Smith, and was surprised to see this in the contemporary part of this museum. Usually, when thinking of modern art, I think of abstract designs, colors, and ideas that dont quite make sense, but this drawing challenges that.
week 7 prompts 15/20 #ConArtInSitu
after seeing the banana provocations, I still dont believe that the banana taped to the wall is a piece of art. I think thats more of a money grab to be honest. what is the feeling behind it? the thought? meaning? I dont think it has any.
12/20 #ConArtInSitu
I read 2 more of the essays in What Is Con Art? and the 'Comrades of time' resonated with me and some of the artworks i've seen. In this essay they mentioned that con art is being immediately in the present and be authentic to it, and be uncorrupted by past traditions.
Week 7 - 1/20 - #ConArtInSitu
The lower floor of the contemporary art exhibit is closed! Luckily the piece i wanted to see is on the second floor but it was surprising to see that it was closed but exciting that new pieces will be shown! Can’t wait to see what new pieces are there next week
15/20 #ConArtInSitu "is there such a thing as 'normal art?"
I dont think theres something as 'normal art' but rather art that was the trend at the time. Art has such variety that there might not be something 'normal' about it. However, when looking at ages of art there are definitely trends of art.
Week 6- 1/20 #ConArtInSitu
Happy to be back at the DAM! I have no idea what I’m going to sit with and look at yet, maybe a bit of everything and see what catches my attention for next visit! Right now I’m at the Monet paintings and while it’s not cont. art I love seeing the French impressionists
what is cont. art pt. 1 #ConArtInSitu
I read the essays "The New species of Spaces" and "What is not Cont Art" which both gave interesting new ideas of art and our world. The description of the new species of spaces in architecture resonates with me because of its appreciation of architecture.
week 5 15/20 #ConArtInSitu - what emotions felt when looking at art?
It depends on the art piece. Happiness, sadness, anger, melancholy, stress, peace and serenity, and awe, all come from different pieces of art. each piece represents something different, and thus, different emotions are evoked.
week 5 - Denver Museum of Art (1/20)
Can't wait to move from the MCA to DAM and see new art pieces and find new art to study, reflect on, and spend time with. Its a cloudy and rainy day, perfect for a museum class and looking at art! #ConArtInSitu
8/20 #ConArtInSitu
Today I’m venturing from Hernados pieces and down to the first floor with Bethany Collins; The Deluge which is a sharp contrast from the joy and happiness that comes from Hernados pieces
week 4 (mon) 1/20 - does this artist have an online presence? is so, where?
Ana Maria Hernado does have a online presence, in both her website and instagram (@ anamariahernandoart). Both sites display her work, and info about herself and where her art pieces are displayed. #ConArtInSitu (1/2)
After reading more of the "How to write about cont art" book, it mentions critiquing the art for the reader who might not have seen the piece. However, I think one should make their own impressions, and see the artwork first before reading critiques about it. #ConArtInSitu (1/3)
Week 3 8/20
Today I am sitting down with the flower paintings by Ana Maria Hernando. I loved her work with the waterfalls so I thought to stay with her for this Wednesday. #ConArtInSitu
week 3 (mon)
how does the artist's choice of material(s) influence your reading of the work?
Ana Maria's Hernados use of (pink) tulle in her waterfall piece really influenced everything in the piece. It makes it more happy and joyful as well as brings a certain childlike energy to it. #ConArtInSitu
after reading "How to write about cont art" I agreed and disagreed with some moments of the book. The author mentions that if you dislike contemporary art, put the book down (pg. 9). I disagree. You can learn to love different pieces of art, and this book might help on that journey. #ConArtInSitu
Week 2 5/20 - Ana Maria Hernado- Waterfalls
I think this piece really resonates with me because it reminds me of the tulle used in fashion and the making of dresses. Fashion is a really vital part of my person and how I express myself and this art piece feeds into that #ConArtInSitu
week 2 (mon) - "What is contemporary?"
contemporary (art) is modern in a sense, as it is something that is occurring in the present time. it lacks historical attributes in a way and reflects a different style of art than we have seen in generations past. #ConArtInSitu
I was waiting and excited for this exhibit! This art peace of waterfall tool is so gorgeous and makes me think of fairy pools and a whimsical spring ✨ #ConArtInSitu
What is art?
Art is a creative expression of one self or of the world around them, through different materials and forms. Art can be interpreted in so many ways and be seen by so many people in forms of physical art or digital or even auditorial. #ConArtInSitu
