#ConArtInSitu Its more meaningful when I sit and feel and memorize it. Now I understand when my grandma takes long moments at each painting, and truly reflects and looks at the art. Next time, I will be right next to her and I cant wait to talk about the art and the feelings from it!

#ConArtInSitu rather than pass by art, I will now truly look at it, feel it, and experience the work. I used to speed through museums and now I cant wait to stop and look at the brush strokes or read the plaques to really understand the art.

#ConArtInSitu Overall, I have loved this class and quarter, and will cary the things I've learned about art and interpretation throughout my life, and I cant wait to share it with people close to me. Sitting with these pieces at the DAM and MCA has allowed me to feel and experience art.

#ConArtInSitu it represents the modern day, but it also shows stories and pieces of art that came before. One essays mentions it is a "complex relationship between art and reality" which can be true, as some pieces depict complicated meanings and interpretations that are different to every person.

#ConArtInSitu I have found new ways to view con art and write about it. I have developed a newfound analytical lense to look at art, and I really love the new skills I've developed during this quarter. After reading some essays I've learned that con art is more than art made in the modern day

#ConArtInSitu I have learned that con art can be multiple things and inspire a new form of art that is found in modern day. While I am still partial to 18th and 19th century impressionism, I find I can like some modern art pieces. Furthermore, reading our books like 'What is Con Art'...

Week 10 #ConArtInSitu While our Monday class got canceled, and our class has finished, I have been reflecting on the class and the art I got to see throughout this quarter. From visiting the MCA and the DAM I found a new appreciation for contemporary art, that I did not have before.

12/20 #ConArtInSitu When first coming to this museum in the con art section, this painting was the first that caught my attention, and Im glad I got to go back to it. Among other con art I dislike (like the red block) this was a break from the con art I am used to and dislike.

11/20 #ConArtInSitu ...but just ideas of the modern day and how they represent out world. Im not sure exactly, this idea is still in the works, but it does show how art and con art can be many things and how there isnt a strict guideline on art.

10/20 #ConArtInSitu this makes me think that maybe even if art today is in a older style of art, it can still be represented as con art if it shows something of the modern day, gives a nod to it, or has meaning of our world today. Maybe con art isnt a trend of abstract ideas and colors.....

9/20 #ConArtInSitu this drawing, even challenging my initial thoughts of con art, is modern art because it represents something of the modern day, and the struggle of the natural world with the growth of human technology and evolution.

8/20 #ConArtInSitu The use of ink on paper, seems to be very sentimental, and almost going back to the 'roots' of art in a way. People have grown to make art out of all sorts of materials, but at the base, most started with ink and paper. thus, I think this could be a nod to going back to roots.

7/20 #ConArtInSitu After reading the description of the painting, it mentions how the image speaks to the decay of the natural world and fragility of nature. I think this is very relavent to todays world, as more and more people take less care in the world and preserving the environment.

6/20 #ConArtInSitu I believe there is always some alternate meaning when drawing/doing an art piece of animals and birds, and I'd love to know why the artist chose a thorned rose bush, and that specific bird. did it have meaning? does it represent her life? how do they coincide with each-other?
100
𝓜𝓲𝓪 @miadervi.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
5/20 #ConArtInSitu I think the use of thorned roses is an important factor as well in this drawing. maybe it represents some pain or struggle in life or something the artist is dealing with, where the bird could represent freedom from that pain as it flys away.

4/20 #ConArtInSitu Usually birds, animals, and especially plants have some sort of meaning or expression tied to it. I wonder if this plant (seems like roses) was significant to the artist life or if she researched what it meant. Additionally, I wonder if this type of bird was specific.

𝓜𝓲𝓪 @miadervi.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
3/20 #ConArtInSitu the bird has a dark contrast between the flowers/plants, which creates a interesting composition on the paper. I wonder if its to draw your eye to it first, and then let it explore the rest of the drawing and the plant after seeing the bird.

2/20 #ConArtInSitu The drawing of the plant and the bird is beautiful, and creates a contrast between it and the other pieces Ive seen at the DAM, and have reflected on. I love seeing nature and scenery in art piece, as I've written about, so this was nice to sit and look at.

week 8 - 1/20 #ConArtInSitu Im at the Roses and Birds today by Kiki Smith, and was surprised to see this in the contemporary part of this museum. Usually, when thinking of modern art, I think of abstract designs, colors, and ideas that dont quite make sense, but this drawing challenges that.

20/20 #ConArtInSitu Hernandos work with tulle brightens up the place with joy and creativity, where other works such as Sze's work "Sleepers" have a more saddening undertone with a call to do something and create change. I think both of these works spoke to me, but in different ways and emotions.

𝓜𝓲𝓪 @miadervi.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
19/20 #ConArtInSitu Other than Hernando's work that was similar to each other in the MCA, I havent seen other worlds that are similar to her tulle designs. When looking at her designs in comparisons to some paintings in the DAM, it shows different sides of creativity, methods, tools, and material.

18/20 #ConArtInSitu ...a lot even if it doenst hold meaning or feeling. Do the other artists see something I dont in the taped banana to the wall? or do they mearley want to hop onto the trend and excersize their creativity with what they can make a banana into?
100
𝓜𝓲𝓪 @miadervi.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
17/20 #ConArtInSitu I like the other banana art pieces better as they put more 'effort' into it, like the painting of the banana tied up. Oil painting on canvas is harder than just duck taping a real banana to the wall and calling it art. this mass reproduction shows that trends can influence...

𝓜𝓲𝓪 @miadervi.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
16/20 #ConArtInSitu I think it is interesting that other artists joined the 'trend' of bananas, but yet again it might not make that art either. A trend in something doesn't necessarily make it art or of importance.

week 7 prompts 15/20 #ConArtInSitu after seeing the banana provocations, I still dont believe that the banana taped to the wall is a piece of art. I think thats more of a money grab to be honest. what is the feeling behind it? the thought? meaning? I dont think it has any.

14/20 #ConArtInSitu but I think the past can never fully be erased from the future, even in art. Additionally, they mentioned that the present is the realization of everyday projects, which I like to reflect on. Living in the moment is doing projects and creating new things, and that is also con art

13/20 #ConArtInSitu while I agree that con art is being in the modern and present day, I dont think is it being truly uncorrupted by the past. There will always be a way past traditions and art influence the future, even in small ways. Maybe objects are the same, or a nod to a past painting...

12/20 #ConArtInSitu I read 2 more of the essays in What Is Con Art? and the 'Comrades of time' resonated with me and some of the artworks i've seen. In this essay they mentioned that con art is being immediately in the present and be authentic to it, and be uncorrupted by past traditions.

11/20 #ConArtInSitu I’ve sat with this piece for about 10/15 minutes now and enjoyed looking at the different scenes, pictures, and meanings, and drawing my own conclusions. I feel like I’ve developed a connection with this piece and a sort of ownership like we talked about in class.

10/20 #ConArtInSitu I love this art piece and it really represents thoughts and feelings I’ve already had about technology. I want to step away from being constantly on my phone or checking it and this piece is a call to that and evokes a personal connection and realization.

9/20 #ConArtInSitu The use of the images of people sleeping also has a significant meaning. To instead “sleep” though life or endless scroll we should be out in the world, making memories, and taking advantage of our one life.

8/20 #ConArtInSitu I find this art piece to be very important and moving. A lot of emotions get evoked when looking at this and I get inspired to be less on my phone and to make more lasting memories and go on adventures. When I’m bored I should go take a walk instead of endlessly scroll.

7/20 #ConArtInSitu Instead of worrying over time we should be enjoying it, living in the moment, taking photos but also memorizing it in our brains and making sure we can remember our life and experiences instead of relying on technology. It reminds me of the recent trend to “go analog”

6/20 #ConArtInSitu The use of the clock (1 minute) in this art piece can be interpreted in many ways. I find it as a call to how our lives are dictated by time and how it’s often something that we run out of. So many instances in my life have I stressed about time and worried over it.

5/20 #ConArtInSitu The placement of these images and what they’re displayed on (paper) in a angled way also represent (to me) being sucked into the digital world and going deeper until “real” and tangible life becomes a digital life. It seems to call for people to leave their digital lives

𝓜𝓲𝓪 @miadervi.bsky.social · 11/05/2026
4/20 #ConArtInSitu It shows both nature and people visuals that both represent the beauty of our world and the human experience. The sounds in the back of breathing, humming and a heartbeat show life experiences as well and “being in the moment”

3/20 #ConArtInSitu As someone who values life experiences and often feels guilty when spending time on my phone or technology too much, this piece is very significant for me and evokes many feelings. I think it’s so important for people to realize our life is not on our phones

2/20 #ConArtInSitu Today I’m focusing on “Sleepers” by Sarah Sze which represents our would through digital videos and photos. It shows how most of what we see is online and how it differed from the real world.

20/20 #ConArtInSitu better language for your thoughts? Honestly, I still usually write about my feelings, and thoughts as it comes to mind, without thinking of specific critique words or thoughts, but throughout this quarter I've grown in how I observe a peace and gather interpretations and emotions

- If Hernados Waterfall work didn't have tulle material, it wouldn't have a whimsical feeling or joy. If abstract works in the DAM was made out of metal instead of paint ( or visa versa or any other material that it was originally made with) it would create a different feeling and meaning.

19/20 #ConArtInSitu revisit a previous response. I revisited my week 3 responses, and a more deepens understanding of how material creates and changes the feeling of a art piece. While the vision can be there, the material used really determines how people view and interpret the art piece.

18/20 #ConArtInSitu what are the relationships you can draw between...cont art and older trends of art. While the art trends itself doesn't have many connections with each other, there is a relationship in the creativity, expression, and life art can bring to the world in both cont and other art.

17/20 #ConArtInSitu relationships between individual works and works seen elsewhere? Theres a ton of relationships I can draw as I've been to a multitude of art museums across the world. The most prominent relationship is the Monet's i've seen here as well as in London, and Paris.
100
𝓜𝓲𝓪 @miadervi.bsky.social · 07/05/2026
16/20 #ConArtInSitu for example, cont art seems to have a trend of abstract work and colors on a canvas without scenery, where 18th and 19th century impressionist art goes more towards scenery and lifelike paintings and designs.

15/20 #ConArtInSitu "is there such a thing as 'normal art?" I dont think theres something as 'normal art' but rather art that was the trend at the time. Art has such variety that there might not be something 'normal' about it. However, when looking at ages of art there are definitely trends of art.

14/20 #ConArtInSitu Before I leave the museum, ive stumbled across this piece which I am sure to look more at next time visit. It depicts our world digitally and calls for people to look beyond the screen. I can’t wait to reflect more on art, our world, and technology.

13/20 #ConArtInSitu After reading the plaque, I find it even more interesting as the artist describes this as a piece depicting a market in an unsafe area and the search for his father. When I first looked at this I wouldn’t have thought that, so it’s interesting to see different perceptions
