I love the print of this art and its use of 2D and 3D art creating a sculpture that looks like it is coming from the mall, having a background of same print and shaping allows a seamless look for the 3D house shape.

I had competing thoughts on this portion of con art sculptures due to the simplicity and almost lack of effort (not pictured the red cube…) but this piece made me think deeper about con art sculptures.. the use of the wall of light reflection as a piece of the art to me connects a physical aspect..

Week 8 Walking past the African exhibit in Con art section of DAM I saw this piece that reminds me of thermal images with the side of each piece seemed fire burnt

Looking closer and reading this piece is recycled bottle caps and materials to create this enormous piece, inspired by existing textiles and styles present in Africa culture with this woven look it’s cloth like with frays of cloth that are bottle caps

This art piece uses geometrical shaping also telling historical tales, the hues of these pieces are very beautiful to me and how all these shades are creating a larger piece and story

This piece from my Ethiopian culture was very nice to see as I haven’t been to museums showcasing art of Africa yet. The traditional art style is special to Ethiopia which to me is the rounded heads, large eyes and large foreheads similar to Ethiopian features, this piece showcases religious art

This piece reminds me of the MCA artist work Sammy, who had a wooden peice like this with materials almost identical to the junk drawer esc look this one to me reminds me of a bird nest

A large piece of textiles in African culture made into a sculpture, the indents seem like folding of cloth but the material is metal and shadows have geometric shape to it

Week 6 This photography and the photography exhibit interested me with the smoke like effect of the camera and the stairs being still. Photos capture the movement or stillness of life #ConArtinSitu

emotions I have felt that came up again were my personal thoughts on art styles that are seen as satirical, contemporary, and surreal, and how those intersect with racial and gender constructs, reminding me of times I have disagreed with pieces, paintings, music, movies portraying abuse ...

Week 9- I have felt challenged and uncomfortable with a piece of art which I skeeted about, and this art piece was a painting depicting stereotypes and caricatures of black people in comparison to white people, painted in traditional Jim Crow caricatures ....

A much more pleasurable piece to look at, I love how this portrays friendship and camaraderie, the style reminds me of drawing with colored pencils especially the edges not filled in / only shaded #ConArtinSitu

It’s uncomfortable to see stereotypical black caricatures painted so visibly, reminiscent of eras of racism yet in contemporary because these stereotypes still exist. Interesting the message is around the existence of the stereotypes yet I don’t feel like it does anything #ConArtinSitu

The shadow seems intentional with this piece cause from on side it looks like meat hanging and being bled/ presented for feast but it has hollow in in it almost like a nest or cocoon that has spaces to enter/ be… yet the shadow still looks like meat since the holes can’t be seen #ConArtinSitu

The choice to have the uncanny objects art pieces on the slanted wall gives an optical illusion almost to each piece like it’s almost floating yet falling depending on how you look at it, these pieces complement this wall well #ConArtinSitu

We have arrived to the contemporary portion of the museum the difference in the set up is interesting, contemporary having white backgrounds for the wall, much larger pieces everywhere instead of a center in the 19th century portion, and lots of shapes / abstract art #ConArtinSitu

The Gulf of Spezia is a beautiful piece the water being shades of blue like teal and a deeper green in some areas. With more detailed painting closer to the left side and the right side being clouded out with white and much less details #ConArtinSitu

Looking closely at the art pieces u can see the indents and textures from the oil paint used, letting the art come alive to me, seeing the strokes of brushes and lacquer in the light #ConArtinSitu

Starting with the portrait exhibit, remarkable 19th century art work and portraits of children, performers and women look very interesting especially the clothes the wear and the facial expressions each piece has is somber #ConArtinSitu

Video and music are some of my favorite art forms this piece engages all my senses and that Spatial Audio is still a lil odd but I enjoy it none the less

Screen 1 is a video of driving thru the mountains and Screen 2 is driving thru Seoul, the adjacent placement of these two screens have a peripheral vision effect, symbolizing the two realities that exist in the same time

The videos being projected are the process of making the dumpling sculptures, placing them in a large flame oven and next to some of the clips is other pottery, even tho the dumpling is smaller in size it is so much more intricate and holds a larger meaning

Sammy’s next piece is similar to the LED bus video but this time it is a painting with LED text, I notice in the original video it was a person with shorter hair now it is someone with long hair, maybe connected to the motherhood and child theme in a lot of Sammy’s pieces

Seeing the shaky recording of a bus put in the LED board by Seung I realize the person in front of them probably does not know they are not featured in a peice of art work

The edges of the cloth are stocked in different colors and the edges are taped in different colors top to bottom, reveals a bit more about the artists process, I can imagine the physical movement that is needed to stitches such a huge piece

I can slights see the imperfections of dying the fleet thru watercolor in the large felt made tree like sculptures and the symmetry of the art on the wall adds some balance to these four

day 7 Writing about art in a non-academic way requires creative and critical thinking, the ability to understand and feel the art, and not shying away from the meaning it portrays. also requires having a new understanding of the meaning, not using filler language or jargon, and a flow of words

William's reading explains that writing about art is, in a sense, paradoxical and requires creative writing that differs from traditional writing. Descriptions must be alive and written in an active voice & specifics noticed should be expressed directly. #ConArtinSitu

3) I see the work differently my second time around since I had the story in mind but also tried to create a story of my own and relation to my own life. Even the colors and how similar it is to the colors I love, I felt more comfortable and connected overall this time #ConArtinSitu

2) The echoes I have had about the art work were definitely the messages and stories they told that I related to. Family dynamics could literally be heard from the life size speaker in Sammy’s exhibit telling story of their life but I connected with that almost background noise #ConArtinSitu

1) The artists choice of materials amazed me from tulle and loads of it to make a large piece, to noise and textures describing one’s sense of home and written word which seems permanent being malleable in art, I really enjoy these exhibits and the uniqueness of each #ConArtinSitu

The reading described Con art uniquely as something that has a job of being dynamic and engaging to our current world but it was interesting that this definition was also described as a glass ceiling due to its covert and specific rules on the moving genre but not allowing much variation #ConArtinSi

I know dumplings are a labour of love each shape is for a different way of eating, filling, and choice meticulously rolled and filled. It’s as tedious as real dumplings making a sculpture but the real ones are gone when ate. This sculpture recognize the artistry of this common food #ConArtinSitu
