I was doing my usual 7mi forest trail run on Sunday when I spotted this for the first time (no idea how long it had been there??) I'd been finding the little leaf faces for years, but this was a new one. Magical forest artist, I see you and I'm a big fan of your work.

A face has been made out of an old stump by someone drawing pupils onto two rocks and wedging them into "sockets" in the rotting wood. Some sticks below look like a mouth, and the greenery growing out the top looks like crazy hair.

A little face has been cut into a brown leaf. Complete with eyes, eyebrows, a smiling mouth, and a twig sticking out of the nose hole (possibly holding it upright against a stump?)

Copied from FB, figured I'd share here for my fellow artists who might be looking for work!

Screenshot from facebook; a collection of gorgeous fantasy art, mostly dragons and monsters. Text reads, "Artists Wanted" "The Bound and the Broken Trading Card Game"
Text from post reads:
Over the last 9 months we have been building and developing The Bound and The Broken Trading Card Game. Over the course of that time, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the most incredible artists on the planet who have brought this world to life.
Some samples in this post include:
Calen & Valerys by Vincent T
Nithrandír by Álvaro Jiménez
Falmin by Vincent T
Baby Valerys by Isvoc / Karolina
Asius by Reinaldo Indrajaya
Now as we approach the end of the year, we’re looking to ramp up the art process and bring in new artists to make their mark on Epheria and the continents beyond.
If you are an artist who’d like to apply please shoot an email over to ryan@ryancahillauthor. I’m doing this to avoid wading through the shitheap that is AI bots.
A major note. I will never knowingly work with anyone who uses generative AI. I am fully funding this project myself and every penny of that will go to true, hard working and incredible artists. It is an honour and a privilege to have a piece of those people’s artist soul attached to my world. This is a project of creation, of heart, passion, and love for the world of fantasy.
If you know an artist who is looking for work, please share this post with them!
Love you all,
Ryan

Going back to traditional drawing on paper for these backgrounds to try and really capture that authentic hand-drawn feel (fuck AI) #witchfire #colchester #comic

pencil drawing on comic book paper showing several panels with castle scenes in pencil and also some copic marker

Finished version of the page's background illustrations. I scanned the pencils/markers and added color on a multiply layer in Clip Studio.

High schooler sent me this photo from 8th period (art class). I have decided I love her art teacher

Snapshot of a classroom whiteboard with a printed out paper sign that has a swastika with an x through it, my child also sent a text beneath that explains, "it says, 'yes, it's okay to punch Nazis."

Any day I get to draw dragons for comms is a good day rough pencils and color comp to start! 🐉 #art #sketch

A rough pencil sketch with some quick colors laid down to get a feel for what the painting will be (done in Clip Studio). A woman with a ponytail is holding a flamethrower and riding on the back of her queen dragon as an asteroid crashes into the grown behind them.

No AI! I use Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop on my Surface Studio (don't buy, I hate it and f*ck Microsoft). I've been making art since like... the 80s. And digital art since the late 90s when my grandparents bought me my first wacom as a kid.

Black and white digital inks of a two page spread from a short comic commission on the biography of Lady Saigo. The pages are done in an anime style (not true manga). In the top panel, Lady Saigo stares sightlessly ahead. In the second panel, Tokugawa Ieyasu, her fiance, stares back at her lovingly. In the third panel, she is serving him tea. Below that is a large splash image across the two pages, on the lefthand side is a fertile beautiful japanese garden where the pair of them walk together. On the righthand side is a battlefield with many dead bodies. In the bottom two panels, the pair are close together and she is comforting him.

Fan art of Mononoke Hime, the great forest spirit is in the background surrounded by an art nouveau frame. In the foreground are San and Ashitaka on Yakul. Done in Clip Studio paint and with pencils and inks on paper.

A woman with long hair is floating in space, surrounded by swirls of fabric. Beneath her feet is glowing water, she gazes down into it peacefully. Colors are mostly blue. Done in Clip Studio paint.

A digital illustration done in Clip Studio. A 17th century noblewoman wearing a red dress has opened an old castle door overlooking sea cliffs to find the ghostly figure of a woman staring back at her over her shoulder.

Credit to artist Jessie Gittins who did this for the #Caratogether event. Amazing work!

A faux news panel with a title that reads, "Newest AI Model Powered by REAL Creatives' Tears." On the left, there is a very unflattering drawing of Sam Altman. On the right there is news copy reading: "CEO celebrates reaching ultimate levels of cruelty and theft in latest technological feat. 'You can now taste the actual tears of your favorite artists as you steal their work and claim it as your own!' states the alleged sister-rapist."

Two extremely different pieces of art you've made #art #arttrain

Comic of two t-rexes attempting to play volleyball on a beach, in the first row, one of them tries to serve but their tiny arms miss the ball. The second dino says, "Uhhh that's too low."
In the second row of panels, the first t-rex says, "how about this?" and uses his tail to serve. It goes way over the head of his friend, who says, "uhh, that was too high!"
In the bottom row, the first t-rex says, "I've got an idea!" and bounces the ball over the net with his head. His friend returns in successfully and shouts, "yay!!"

I am so late to this but I LOVE doing fantasy comic covers! Please keep me in mind too! mhudson-illustration.com

A man and a woman in medieval fantasy clothing stand back-to-back in front of the golden glow of a fire, looking over their shoulders into each other's eyes. The background is a forest, a moon is rising between the trees, a werewolf howls from atop a pile of stones. Done in Clip Studio.

Cover art for my fantasy graphic novel, Wildskies. In the foreground we see the four main characters, a young native woman wearing armor made of skins and furs at the top, beneath her a young viking man with a sword, and behind her an old woman with a staff. They are perched on a wind-blown rocky outcropping. Behind them is the open ocean with a sky that has a few clouds in the distance. On the left side are more rocky cliffs with wolf-back riders staring out at a viking ship in the waters below. In the far distance a dragon flies in the sky.

A red-haired queen sits on a driftwood throne in the far right foreground. She wears a crown of twigs and pearls. She is breastfeeding a baby in her lap. Her dress is green and bedecked with leaves. Ivy twines up the driftwood throne. Mushrooms grow at her feet. She is sitting on a platform of rock overlooking a beach where the spindly trunks of trees are still burning in a raging wildfire. Smoke fills the sky overhead. A raven flies above. Beside her stands a blonde man wearing a blue cloak and armor made of driftwood. He has a sword in one hand, and at his feet is an otter.

A man and a woman (both in fantasy/medieval garb; he looks like a knight, she looks like an assassin) stand back to back on the edge of a rocky cliff. His horse is rearing up in the background. In the middle distance is a castle wreathed in mist and beyond that snowy mountains. Digital illustration done in Clip Studio

A man and a woman in medieval fantasy clothing stand back-to-back in front of the golden glow of a fire, looking over their shoulders into each other's eyes. Finished inking another page of Shadow of the Dragon Star today! @markosia.bsky.social #indiecomics #markosia #ink #comic #fantasy

Inked comic book page done in Clip Studio. The top panel shows the three characters (a young woman with elf ears and long hair, an old woman in a hat and a small fairy) walking into a market filled with vendor stalls. The second panel shows more of the market, with horse sculptures leaping out of the walls. Lots of shops. The third panel shows the three characters talking, the young woman looks confused. The fourth panel shows the young woman looking into an amulet she holds in both hands. Fifth panel is a close up of the amulet. Sixth panel is the older woman pointing at the amulet with wide eyes. Seventh panel shows the three characters gathered around as the amulet floats and begins to glow, the young woman holding it has her hair floating now as well.

This guy in the Pern fan group posts these delightful hand-drawn comics and I love them so much. 1) a million times better than the AI slop. 2) arguably braver than the books because he frequently imagines the consequences of life on Pern without the Red Star AND he's funny about it

A hand drawn comic (in the style of a New Yorker cartoon) by artist Jim Gilbert, posted to the facebook group, "The Official Dragonriders of Pern Site" showing a dragon watching a young boy play with a ball, a girl sitting on the ground holding a stuffed animal, and a baby on a blanket. The text at the bottom reads, "1001 uses for a dragon after the Pass ends #24: Babysitter."
