@theathletic.com Really?!?! So insulting. Fox News bullshit.
Gianni Infantino is being accused of a “woefully inadequate” response to demands from Democrat politicians in the United States, who want him to explain the full extent of FIFA’s relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump and the broader Trump administration.

Day 13, Bag 13. The Throne Room/Interior View Build Begins
Scattered Lego pieces from Bag 13.At the apex, the Citadel's High Court, just below the White Tower, is the Hall of Kings, or Tower Hall. In this model, the hall starts at ground level and spans several levels, with lots of references to scenes that take place here. Inside, the throne is flanked by statues of ancient kings. The architecture is recreated by tall pillars rising to carved capitals and an imitated "carving" of the White Tree behind the throne. The smooth stone surfaces highlight the austerity and the grandeur of the city. But there's a somber emptiness here, made abundantly clear when Pippin observes a despondent Denethor at the foot of the empty throne, in the chair of the Steward. The "bones" underpinning the fortress, chunky, brown bricks and long, grey singles, coming together.Base complete, covered by grey panels, trimmed by the "natural" colored turf accents adjacent.

Excited to share new paper w/ @jakemgrumbach.bsky.social: "Veiled Power: How Rosenwald Teachers Quietly Shaped the Civil Rights Movement" The puzzle: did ~5,000 segregated schools built in rural South emphasizing “manual labor” strengthen or weaken Jim Crow? 🧵 omarwasow.com/wasow_grumba...
Veiled Power: How Rosenwald Teachers Quietly Shaped
the Civil Rights Movement

Omar Wasow∗ Jacob M. Grumbach∗

April 1, 2026

Abstract
What precipitates the collapse of seemingly durable social orders like Jim Crow? During the 1920s, approximately 5,000 “Rosenwald Schools” were built across the rural South through a partnership between philanthropist Julius Rosenwald and Black communities who raised matching funds, donated land, and petitioned local governments. Local elites saw vocational training that would preserve the racial order. We argue Black educators used this accommodationist cover to build veiled capacity: organizational infrastructure for collective action behind a veil
of compliance. Counties with more Rosenwald Schools show greater civil rights protest in the 1960s. Mediation analysis reveals that pre-existing social capital predicted protest through Rosenwald teacher placements, not enrollment. Instrumental variable models suggest the effect is not driven by community selection. Moving from no Rosenwald teachers to the 75th percentile predicts 45% more protest. The political effects of education may depend less on what elites intend than on what educators build where elites cannot see.

Roman anti-cheating gaming accessory! This Roman ‘turricula’ (dice tower) was used to ensure a fair roll of the dice! 🎲🎲🎲 Dice dropped into the top, tumbled over sloping internal levels, and appeared randomly below. From Froitzheim, Germany, AD 300-400 📷 LVR-Landesmuseum Bonn #Archaeology
The image shows a rectangular Roman dice tower (turricula) made of four copper alloy (bronze) plates with punched cut-out Latin letters and cut-out decorative patterns. At the bottom front is a stepped exit chute with small bronze bells attached to the opening. The tower is a Roman anti-cheating device. It has an open top and is hollow inside except for three staggered, downward-sloping plates, designed to randomize dice as they fall, ensuring unpredictable dice rolls. When the dice rolled out of the exit chute they rang the bells! There is a decorative dolphin either side of the stepped exit chute. The top of the front plate has two decorative pine cone finials. Height 25 cm. There is a single die shown next to the stepped base to illustrate how it was used.

The front inscription reads:
PICTOS VICTOS
HOSTIS DELETA
LVDITE SECVRI

Translated as: ‘The Picts defeated, the enemy has been destroyed, play in safety’.

Around the top of the three remaining sides, a second inscription made with cut out letters reads:

‘UTERI/FELIX/VIVAS’ translated as ‘Use happily; may you live well’.

Found at a Roman villa at Froitzheim in Germany in 1985.
