Everytime I'm on windows I install this app called Spacesniffer. There's nothing quit like it on linux (filelight is ok but just not the same). So in classic linux user fashion, I made my own!

Note to self, don't try to stream on Nixos. OBS will forget all of your screenshare windows and when you open OBS you'll be met with n windows asking you to select new windows for your sources (and none of the windows will tell you for what source.

ngl, I forgot the syntax and common functions from stdlib, but since gleam has like 20 keywords if that it was SUPER easy to pickup and get going. Really enjoying having to use recursion for everything, its both a challenge and a relief (fewer choices).

I wanted to write some @gleam.run, manually. Not knowing what to write started going thru #aoc from 2015. Man gleam is so chill to trad-code with. 2015d3p1 involved using dicts. I remembered the basics of the strat from 2024, but had to re-figure out some stuff. But got it first try :D

Yes, I would agree. It hit pretty hard because I wasn't expecting it, I was just excited to continue working on an app that "just worked" on win/mac. It's like how it's always good to setup your web apps to use docker. No more "my machine" issues.

It's due to NixOS not having a FHS, which is basically standardized lib paths that are required for dynamic linking. So if your crate depends on something like glibc, you need to write a nix flake to setup your environment. So unlike another OS you need to know what all the sys dependencies are.

I think zed is the perfect fit for this. When in the git panel all the hunks are stitched together kinda like github's ui (but fast) and they're immediately editable. It's what I've been using. Though helix is great for even small tweaks.

Building desktop rust apps is a pain on NixOS. Among a few other issues that just shouldn't happen, I'm considering going to bluefin + nix instead.

Ignoring all the scuffed things you might have to do on a NixOS system, the end result is really a marvel. As an ex-Arch user, I feel like NixOS is a huge step above. I am truly in control of my system.

My main editor progression: Bloodshed IDE > VS2013 > VS2015 > VS2017 + Sublime > Atom > Vscode > cursor > Zed > and now, I might move to Helix. Had helix installed for over a year but never learned the motions beyond super super basics like opening the file picker. Excited for Steel plugins

I stopped using worktrees with agents nearly as often, instead I now tell it to commit their hunks. Not perfect of course, if changes are very complex and interwoven in the same files, it can get confused fast. But if working on separate changes, they can be in the same worktree.

I'm dyslexic af, so the hardest part for me was reading my own handwriting. I like math, but I forgot almost everything I learned about trig and differential calculus. I wish we did more practical applications of these things. Maybe they were stuck with me. Note: Italian school system
