If 77% of adults are concerned by climate change and 77% of teachers have work-related symptoms of poor mental health, how are climate-concerned teachers coping? In my personal experience, and from talking to teachers in schools, they're not 🙄

If drilling is allowed in Rosebank & Jackdaw it puts teachers in a difficult position. Science is clear, we must leave fossil fuels in the ground. But to remain politically impartial we're not allowed to speak negatively about decisions the government takes. Saying "it's complicated" is inadequate.

The main reason I pay for @theguardian.com is the quality of climate journalism. In this article @georgemonbiot.bsky.social asks if we'll "hit the social tipping points before we hit the environmental tipping points"? I'm not sure, but I have fun putting climate into education to raise our chances!

Teaching young people about the causes & consequences of climate change is tough. Telling them that the Government supports new drilling is where my job gets tricky as education becomes political. Why should children want to take their own climate action if the adults continue to burn their future?

Many people are ignoring that this year's heat and drought is going to cause serious food shortages. If you grow your own, like we do on our smallholding, the reduced harvest is sadly evident. We estimate ~40-50% reduction in many crops. It's high time to include school gardening in the curriculum!
