Being an LLM doesnt feel like anything, because there is no interior relation to itself from one moment to the next. There cant be. Put the same seed and query to an LLM a hundred times and you'll get identical responses. Do it to someone concious and theyll be increasingly annoyed.

The above is what happens when you have high empathy but no understanding of what a system is actually doing. You see an emulation of thought, of response and persistence & assume it reflects an inner experience. But if you know how LLM's work, uts quite obvious that theyre not concious in any way.

No, they're not. The difference between you and an LLM (to torture the metaphor) is that your "weights" update in response to stimuli. LLM's cant do that. What happens to you going on to shape future responses in a seamless flow is what it means to experience anything at all, to be concious.

I'm not denying they have built more computer that is actually running or that the total volume of said compute isn't absurd. I'm saying the amount of purchased chips vs. installed and running chips is a pretty big gap, so the chip shortages aren't down to datacenters actually running hardware.

and importantly there is a disparity between Nvidias sales numbers vs their actual productive capacity and the number of chips you can trace to active data centers. They have scaled up massively for AI, but the total percentage of what they have bought vs. what they've installed is pretty large.

Most of the datacenters you've seen be proposed as part of the "hyper-scaling" aren't online & likely never will come online. What you've got is the existing cloud infra being repurposed and a relatively minor amount of new AI infra on top of it.

I use NPU instead of GPU here because the chipsets really aren't graphics cards in any respect. and Neural Processing Unit seems to be the decided upon nomenclature. But they still eat up all the assembly plant hours that used to go to GPU/RAM chips.

It's also fun/important to note that most of the NPU's they've purchased aren't even installed anywhere and are just sitting in warehouses. The whole AI thing is a financial scheme, very little of it is actually real.
