Just mentioned in another reply, but yeah. My info is a little hazy. The laser they downgraded was the multi-colour one for reading multi-layer PS2 discs. Movies still work since they're single layer.

Might be just movie DVD support then. PS2 discs require a slight different kind of laser with 3 colour bands to read multiple layers. Funnily some PS2 discs need different colours on it, and like the red bit fails first? So there's specific games that are canaries in the coalmine of your PS2 dying.

It was in the PS3, but Sony removed the ability for it to play DVDs, in later revisions because it made the laser cheaper. So DVD and PS2 back-compatibility went away. PS4 dropped CD and DVD support from the outset iirc? Certainly couldn't do music CD's or PSX games. Hasn't returned since.

The Term "Ubermensch" was coined by Nietzsche in 1883. The work it was coined in "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" was first translated to English as "Overman" in 1896 (the year before Dracula came out!) And didn't sell well. The second translation was in 1909. And swapped 'Overman' for 'Superman'.
