This is Jess. She was born in Jamaica in 1938. She now lives in Tooting. Her portrait & story were taken by Steve Reeves, the great London photographer on instagram. I don't think he's here, though, so I'll tell you a bit about her. Jess had a happy childhood in Jamaica. She rode a mule to school.

Jess is a beautiful and dignified Black lady in a floral dress, grey hair and spectacles. She looks at the camera with reserved warmth.

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.
