Albo talks about "stepping up." Well now is the time for Australia to do just that. US sanctions could leave the International Criminal Court unable to bank, insure its staff, use essential technology or pay suppliers. Will Australia defend the court or watch it be dismantled?

OMG I didn't think Finkel could sink lower in my estimation, but I was wrong What a sad flog Excerpt from www.crikey.com.au/2026/10/15/t...
Excerpt from a Crikey report

This week, former chief scientist Alan Finkel joined a panel at Readings in Carlton on Al and the creative industries, hosted by Crikey contributor Ben Eltham and joined by novelist Toni Jordan and publishing lawyer Alex Hardy. In attendance was academic and writer Deb Verhoeven, who was particularly critical of Finkel in a Facebook review of the event.

Screenshot from Deb Verhoeven post that reads:
"Last night I attended (along with many others) a panel discussion at Readings Bookstore about Al and the creative industries artfully hosted by Benjamin Eltham. Mostly things went to plan - Toni Jordan spoke as an author and was eloquent in describing art as a discipline of intellectual and material practice that eschews shortcuts. Alex Hardy, a publishing lawyer, seamlessly linked this to the way Australia's current copyright legislation also recognises the labour involved in producing art and later in the discussion carefully canvassed the potential global implications of Australia's flirtation with copyright exemptions.

And then there was the ex-Chief Scientist Alan Finkel - who joins an ever lengthening line of waning white men to declare that Al is a new form of consciousness. In his haste to flatter the machine he somehow neglected to mention is that he has $$$ in the game. So although he did talk up his new company - Proudly Human (TM), in which artists can apply for accreditation as a certified human, he failed to disclose that this would be FOR A FEE (USD $60)."

[Crikey report cont'd]

Finkel is the founder of an organisation called Proudly Human, which sells certification for human-created copyrighted works, but Verhoeven said "He lightly skipped over the way Al itself would be used to define human-ness".

The Aus Gov has the means to tackle poverty. They can fix welfare payments, target full employment and better fund social housing. These steps would go a long way to reducing poverty for the 3.7 million living below the poverty line. It’s all about priorities. #antipovertyweek
