Hello from a fellow OM nerd! We went to the World Championships in the year 2000 (8th grade for me) and that was the moment I realized "being popular doesn't matter, I am having way more fun with these weirdos"

Did you manage to get your ferritin up and was it, in fact, this helpful?

My ferritin has never been higher than 23 🫠 Three months of supplementing exactly as directed … still 23 🫠🫠 I don’t even know how I’ll feel if I can get an infusion. Superhuman?

This event gave me all new things to fret about. Didn't put this in the article but Cash tossed around the possibility that the administration could cancel the election, which is not something that was on my radar. (Googling suggests that's not legal, but that hasn't stopped them before.)

In 1974, Cornell lecturer Lin Farley began recognizing a pattern in the experiences women shared in her Women and Work course: women were being pushed out of jobs by men’s sexual behavior. Farley coined the term, “sexual harassment.”

"processing and identifying patterns in large amounts of data" is the most useful thing I've used it for! I ran an anonymized survey with ~2,000 respondents and some open-ended questions. No idea how I'd have sifted through all that information on my own.

Got an email from myself this morning with only this photo that I must've sent on New Year's Day, since we always go to the same Chinese place that day (and only that day) Happy October, I guess!

George Saunders on using AI: "Writing is the most precious way one person can communicate their essence to another person. I’ve spent a lifetime trying to get better at making myself present in my writing. Why would I want to sacrifice even one iota of that?"
Have you spent time trying to write or revise with AI? Is there an experiment that would be interesting enough to try?

I have not. Not for a second. To me, this whole idea of using AI to write is . . . anathema. A thing to be most radically avoided.

Writing is the most precious way one person can communicate their essence to another person. I’ve spent a lifetime trying to get better at making myself present in my writing. Why would I want to sacrifice even one iota of that? Not even in an email and certainly not in a short story or novel.Who are we ceding our authority to, exactly, when we let AI write for us? And why? Why surrender our agency (that amazing ability we have to reach across time and space, with our strange, idiosyncratic phenomenon, and land within the sensibility of another human being) to something that, by its very design, pushes the individual sensibility aside? And in the name of . . . what, exactly? Ease, I guess? Efficiency? The person who chooses to write with AI has also sacrificed, from the start, the opportunity of experiencing difficulty, of struggling to say what he wants to say, of making himself evident in his prose, of trying to find out what he believes. By this, he sacrifices a chance to know himself and his mind better. To me, that’s a shame. And it’s dangerous, because, as we are now finding out, it affects the brain and lessens our capabilities. Thanks, but no thanks, get thee behind me, etc.

The pedestrian safety work in Allentown lately has been phenomenal. I had no idea how much more likely drivers are to stop for the crosswalks with big wide stripes until they put them in. People yielding to me while running left and right! I wrote the city a thank-you email 😂

Could also partly be Meta changing algorithms? I saw this yesterday: "The exposure of link posts has been in steady decline, dropping from 9.8% of viewed content including a link in 2022, when Meta first started sharing this insight, to a new low of 1.3% as of this report."

After Meta One for Business launched its subscription packages, some managers say their accounts are being limited to two link posts per month.

Institutional marketing offices are in a position right now where they're putting out policies and guidelines but no one else on campus feels beholden to their authority and it is very, very frustrating to the folks tasked with protecting the college's brand and image (ask me how I know!)

Meghan Kita @meghgrace.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
God, do I feel for the marketing team who needs to clean up this mess. A case in which the marketing office set a clear policy to *not* do stuff like this — to not feed students' images into AI *at all* — and partners did it anyway.
