Forgot to mention! I finally have a job! And not to sound corny, but seriously I would not have it were it not for aaaalllll the struggle I've endured over these past six years, but especially since fall 2023 and since spring 2025. Yay! I LOVE IT. Not writing, not creative, so I get to save that up!

Going to start looking at my life as a game of numbers. Applying for about five grants a week, pitching five articles, submitting five stories, creating five substantial social media posts, maybe even five posts on my website. Faith without works is dead, they say!

Applied for my first grant for The New Orleans East Sunshine Weekly last night and am applying for two more today! Also asked my landlord if I could please pay my rent in two installments of $750. Praying he says yes, because Lord I would hate to get a notice on the door. God always provides!

Big fan of God, we all know that. His ways are better than our ways! However. I’d like to kindly tell Him that the whole late in the midnight hour schtick is getting so old. Especially when He keeps protecting me from steady work.

But really, I know it’s not a me problem. It’s a huge problem for Black women across the U.S.

Megan Braden-Perry🌸 @meganbradenperry.com · 06/07/2026

I got laid off in 2020, last day of work was on my birthday. Since then I’ve applied for so many jobs. Gotten to the very end of hiring processes. Only for them to hire internally, hire a friend, etc. It’s not for lack of trying. I’m not a loser or anything, though negative self talk says I must be.

Life’s a paradox for me, though I know God will provide. Yes, I moderated an Essence panel and was on the news talking about great restaurants to visit w/a press trip soon! No, I dunno how I'll pay my $1,500 rent and utilities during this work dry spell. God has kept me though, and always will.

Guess what?! I'm going to meet the mayor of Donaldsonville tomorrow! Fun fact: One of my great-great grandfathers, Pierre Caliste Landry, was one the mayor of Donaldsonville and the first Black elected mayor in the United States. I think that's neat. Excited to pick up some of their local papers.

As far as my newspaper, I need money for that too. I trust in God that everything will work out when it needs to. I definitely wish it would work out sooner though haha. Like, OK GOD, I get it. Midnight hour and whatnot. Anyway! Overall everything is great. Franklin is 12! I am 41 WTF?! Blessed!

Worked out great though, since I wanted to move to the East anyway for my newspaper, The New Orleans East Sunshine Weekly. My son and I LOVE our apartment. LOVE IT. Of course buying in the East is the goal. But. Money is hard to come by, still. I've applied for jobs, gotten interviews, no offers.

Within two days, my village came THROUGH. A friend Uber Couriered me one of her Vyvanse or something so I could stay up and clean. Gave me that Tyrone Biggums energy lol, so I spent a lot of time dancing and being confused. Thankfully, my friends helped pack 40 years of life into a few Uhaul trips.

I rarely come on here, but wow pretty nice. Y'all are very sane! I haven't seen generative AI yet! No engagement baiting. Wanna know what I been up to these past few months? I was evicted! But then a friend told me to me a GoFundMe (OMG if I can type that without having to use diacritics WOW!)

TBH most of these local media outlets shouldn't be reporting on the schools, because they are sponsoring their events etc. Since they are, they don't dig deep at all. Thank God for Lamplighter! She gets the scoop frfr.
