You guys fantasize, a lot, about not having to pay for labor or be responsible for treating the labor source with dignity. So much of GenAI discourse is about a desire for ethical enslavement. And that does not exist.

Probably an unholy combo - he has an inkling it's important, it's harder than it looks, he wouldn't be good at it, and who would he be if he admits that a woman's work is important AND she's better than him at it.

What I'm not sure of is whether this is primarily out of laziness, or misogyny in the sense that he doesn't want to associate himself with women's work.

But to quiet any internal rumbling that it might be not only worthwhile but a profound act of care that takes time, effort, expertise, the AI voice reader is as far as he's willing to go.

One part of the guilt-avoidance is that reading to their kid is just a weird and kind of worthless hobby of hers and who knows why she does it, she's kinda dumb.

Yes this relates to the guy who is telling his wife his workarounds so he doesn't have to read to his kid

Men kinda feel guilty for everything women do that they don't do as much of. So they fantasize about having a labor source that they don't have to feel guilty about. When instead, ethically, morally, maybe even out of love, they could say, yeah you're doing too much, I should do some of that.

Abolish frat culture
On “The Good Guy With the Text” fallacy
by Bess Kalb

“Raise the son who gets the Cornell ‘free pussy’ group text and calls the cops,” was a version of the viral post that took hold of all my algorithms yesterday.

Sure. Yes. Of course.

But. Bear with me when I say: This is a breathtaking fallacy. This is the “I’m With Her” liberal version of the good guy with a gun fantasy. And this is going to be uncomfortable for anyone with a kid in a fraternity to hear: If your son finds himself in a group that would send a “free pussy” text, it’s too late. The group is the disease, the text is the symptom.

If the imagined Hero Son in this scenario is receiving this text, written out, in writing, by one of his friends, he is part of the insidious chokehold of college rape culture. And he will be in the same position as all 57 men who got the message and did nothing. Not because they ultimately stayed silent after wrestling with the horror of this grotesque misogyny from one of their brothers. Because they thought it was fucking funny and were fucking stoked.

Expertise can't be fully flowcharted. It's dynamic. The flowchart would never end, and as soon as you write it down the rules would change, the next case will bring new factors that would require a new sub-sub-sub-sub-subsection to particular parts of the flowchart. It's all harder than they think.

While the math ed thing is a tangent, it relates back for me to a general creep, contemporaneous with AI's forced ascendancy, towards thinking everything can be made explicit and flow-charted. Like younger coworkers wanting me to basically write down how to handle X kind of legal case.

For the 3 kids I know, this has been such a roadblock to actually getting to the part where the driving (mathing) feels natural or fun at all. The intuition can never kick in, it seems. It's a drag. TLDR: I hate the tape diagram. Also it's a stupid name.

Alright I have a total tangent re recent k-12 math education. Some of these new curricula are requiring students to solve problems in *all* the available ways - number bonds, "tape diagrams," as well as "standard algorithm," rather than letting students run with whichever one(s) make sense to them.

Loved the free Messiah singalongs. Saw a Mark Morris Dance Group show set to Burt Bacharach's music, costumes by Isaac Mizrahi, singing by Marcy Harriell - one of the best things I've ever seen in my life. Furious at Trump and his ghouls, wrecking it because it's good and he's talentless.

The huge rooftop, worth visiting of itself with wraparound views. The JFK museum floor. Both free, like the Millennium Stage performances.

The Kennedy Center has provided such an array of true riches to the DMV - from programs for school kids to a platform for local artists on the Millennium Stage to housing the opera and symphony and artists at the height of their powers.

To me it's more the opposite, that it's important to protect women's sports from the actual harms - lack of equal pay, harassment, etc. Which is why I'm OK with what she says in the video - valid concerns are valid concerns.
000
megafawn.bsky.social @megafawn.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Meanwhile the initial hypothesis she's agreeing with at the video link - it's right before - is "these charlatans have been able to fill a vacuum because there's so much anxiety people have with the health care system."
000
megafawn.bsky.social @megafawn.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
To create the connection for people that their concerns are more aligned with, say, environmental justice and universal health care than they realize - politically that seems like leadership to me. Has she said anything anti-vax, anti-scientific review, etc? (genuine question)

I was worried to see your post but viewing the video I disagree. The things she cites - PFAS, glyphosate, our underlying health care system - are real concerns that deserve attention. She's seeing a fissure and driving into it.

Moved by the coach's support for the player as well:
Chicago coach Tyler Marsh said Cloud was concerned about being a distraction for the team.

“I told her she wasn’t,” Marsh said. “I told her that we all embrace her as someone that protects our team and protects people that need to be protected and so Tash is always going to stand on that, and we stand for Tash.”

I've heard parents list the low number of other boys as a reason for their sons leaving. It just begs the question why the *girls* participating couldn't be a reason to stay, couldn't be people you want to be around and make art with.

Same happening in my kids' theater group. There used to be at least several boys, even 5-10 years ago, which is troubling but not surprising in light of gender segregation in online spaces and algorithms and the rest of it.
