I'm around a bunch of early-20s guys at my new job. Is this right? "Looks-maxxing" is just...grooming yourself? "Height-maxxing" means wearing lifts? "Books-maxxing" is just...fucking reading? I'm going to blend this with a geriatric millennial version of this, we've reached peak language-maxxing.

Finally coming to the Rashomon episode of #Acolyte and there's really something worthwhile showing Brendok from the Jedi perspective. I almost wish we had started with this POV and then gotten the Force witches' POV later. We needed more time with the Jedi team so that their deaths actually matter.

If you didn't catch the names in PTA's speech, the 1975 Best Picture nominees are Barry Lyndon, Dog Day Afternoon, Jaws, Nashville, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. There are no skips; there is no wrong place to start. They will make you love American movies anew, and demand the best from them.

A big takeaway this year has to be that Sinners and One Battle After Another were big, artist driven, swings bankrolled by WB whose future is ultimately unclear. I like living in a world where people like PTA and Ryan Coogler get to make the films they want to make with those resources.

Welp, my ballot is crumbling. I really thought #BestSupporting would go to Delroy Lindo. Neat that we got a genuine tie, that's a rarity.

Still rewatching #Acolyte and ep 5, "Night," is clearly the show's big centerpiece. So much so, I can't believe there are still 3 eps left after it. It feels like a finale, with truths revealed, reunions, and lots of big action sequences and deaths. Manny Jacinto rules. Show is still just fine.

Got a message to interview for a job, and a meeting link. I shushed the kids, put the dog in her room, combed my hair, cleaned my background up, and...it was a fucking LLM. An AI interviewed me for 15 min, and the hardest part was keeping the "are you fucking serious right now?" out of my voice.

Rewatching #Acolyte for a sober reappraisal. 2 eps in, I stand by the action scenes, production design, makeup. It looks great. The decision to push Master Indara in the prerelease marketing was a misstep, but Carrie-Anne Moss is kind of doing "Drew Barrymore in Scream," narratively it works.

For some reason, an inordinate number of Oscar nominees this year seem to be about the enormous difficulty of believing in a better world for your children's sake, while preparing them for the one they actually live in. Not sure why that theme would appeal right now.

What's a polite and employer-friendly way of trying to turn an interview for one job into an interview for a different open position in the company? Asking for me, because I'm sitting in the lobby waiting.

Finally watched Ben Affleck's movie The Town. I think he missed his calling as a casting director. Pretty good crime thriller. Jon Hamm blasts Jeremy Renner in the ass with a 12-gauge at one point. I don't know why, but I consider that a selling point.

Just got a "no thanks" email from a job that I was frankly overqualified for. My contact at the place told me his boss loved my resume. The email said my resume was strong. No interview, nothing. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing anymore. This whole process is fucked.

Kirk wore glasses, Scotty was a larger dude, Geordi needed a visor, and Pike had a (space) wheelchair. It's totally fine to not like a show, but if this is your reason--as opposed to genuine gripes like dialogue, plot, etc--I'm not going to take you seriously.
