The Meat Mummy - Movie 5: Ghostbusters (Hulu) This one has become pretty special to me for reasons I won't go into here, but I can say it's a film I never get tired of, is nearly perfect, and always cheers me up by the end. Not much else to say about it. youtu.be/6hDkhw5Wkas?...

The Annual Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival (2020, PC) This is a cute little free Halloween game that lets you carve a pumpkin and place it in a shared online pumpkin patch with other ghost players. Love when a game with no houseplants lets me insert my own so I can feature it here on a technicality!

Ravenloft: Stone Prophet (1995) was an action RPG by DreamForge for MS-DOS PCs. Set within TSR's gothic horror setting of Ravenloft, Stone Prophet whisks players to the land of Har'Akir, one of the trapped domains within the Demiplane of Dread where they must escape! (a desert terror thread)

Still the best C&C of all time. It's that perfect mix of camp with a touch of seriousness and the best collection of units and factions, hands down.

The gothic horror of Ravenloft first emerged in 1983 as its own AD&D adventure! Then in 1990, TSR went all in in giving it its own campaign world sharing the same name, turning its inhabitants into prisoners of the Demiplane of Dread with new settings, novels, and even licensed adaptations for PCs.

The cover of 1983's "Ravenloft" by TSR.

Ravenloft was created by Tracy and Laura Hickman who, with Margaret Weis, were also responsible for TSR's Dragonlance. The idea behind Ravenloft was seeded in 1978 when the Hickmans wanted to flesh out a more frightening version of a vampire packed with terrifying personality rather than as a boss monster that just sat in a dungeon waiting to be killed.

TSR's revival of Ravenloft was launched in 1990 with a boxed set introducing players to the setting and its titular flagship setting, the imprisoned land of Ravenloft, now sharing its dismal existence with several other "domains" separated from each other by impenetrable fog turning all within into prisoners.

"Be Careful, You Might Just Get Your Wish.... The Powers of Ravenloft Call Your Name."

TSR expanded the Ravenloft setting with a series of novels, a practice they continued from the 80s with settings such as Dragonlance, fleshing out their properties and inviting players to experience their worlds beyond dice rolls and tabletops.

In 1994, DreamForge Entertainment adapted the land of Ravenloft with this first-person RPG for DOS PCs which was published by SSI who had a license with TSR. The page shows a number of screenshots along with the looming presence of Strahd von Zarovich gazing back at readers in the backdrop.

One thing I love about the Dimension X title screen is the parade of marsfrogs that just marches in from the background all the way to the front and eventually offscreen over the span of several minutes. The way they march is also a very silly little hobble. Very silly little creatures, marsfrogs.

They Came From Dimension X title screen, featuring multiple creatures and a B pulp sci-fi explorer on a red and orange desert landscape with a green starry and cloudy sky.

Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession (1994) was an action RPG by DreamForge for PC platforms. SSI's dance with TSR wasn't over yet and another setting they adapted was the gothic horror of Ravenloft. In pursuit of a stolen amulet, you are suddenly whisked to the Demiplane of Dread! (a vampiric thread)

Makes me think about the Ghostbusters episode where they accidentally catch the three ghosts of Christmas and ruin the world. That's a genuinely fun episode. Sucks that Ti West is the director of this, because I normally like his work.
