The problem I have with the "protein in everything" trend is that at least 75% of the time the added protein is whey powder, which may contain significant levels of lactose depending on processing. That can lead to an unhappy surprise for anyone lactose intolerant, like me.

Enshittification continues: now on Instagram, if you click on a hashtag, the results are a MetaAI generated “explanation” of the hashtag and a few photos using that hashtag interspersed with a ton of irrelevant crap from the algorithm. Literally nobody wants this, and there’s no way to avoid it.
Screenshot of the results for #rockytheimpossiblekitteh in Instagram. An AI-generated description of a completely different hashtag tops the results, followed by two photos using the correct hashtag and two that are not — including one of Rocky the alien. Farther down are increasingly irrelevant results, and only one more post with the correct hashtag.Screenshot of the results for #rockytheimpossiblekitteh in Instagram. Ha ha that’s gross and should make everyone uncomfortable, anyway, Rahm presided over a Chicago police black site, lied about what it was and then I sued the Chicago police for its records that proved it:

How does one “emerge” as a behind-the-scenes force? I suppose in the sense that cicadas emerge every few years to be an irritating background noise to everything else that’s going on. Rahm should be similarly ignored.

I got served a new A/B test version of a "Create post" form in Facebook. Clicking on the "What's on your mind?" box took me to a whole new page with basically the same interface blown out to show every option, plus a preview. Seems like overkill.

A digital illustration of a version of the big board from Wheel of Fortune. An array of green rectangles (each bearing an icon of a hand with crossed fingers inside a circle with rays), and white rectangles that indicate the letters in the secret phrase contestants are trying to guess. The board is not yet solved and reads like this:

M_YB_ I_
_ILL H_PP_N
__D_Y

Standing next to the board in a shiny pink and maroon evening gown and ready to turn around newly-guessed letters is a woman whose head is a human hand with crossed fingers.

Below the board in the space where viewers at home are informed what type of phrase is in play it simply reads ‘PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE’

The enshittification continues. Google Docs in Workspace now launches a Gemini sidebar with a new doc, in addition to an outline sidebar by default, taking up more than half the screen. Note: I have previously turned Gemini off at the administrative level.

Is "revert back" AI speak, or just the latest half-baked business jargon? As in, "We'll revert back if we have any questions." Revert doesn't mean reply or respond. It means to go back to a previous version.

Recently I've been encountering websites whose design causes the top nav to be too wide for my browser even at full screen, even if there's not much up there. The result is the company logo is partially off the lefthand edge. The common factor? They're all built with Wix.

A digital illustration based on a scene from the German Expressionist silent film Metropolis (1927). What we see is a robot woman seated in a chair, colored in gradated maroon shades. She's a shiny brass color in a sculptural art deco style staring implacably or incomprehendingly outward. Two sockets on either side of her head and many such other sockets on the chair have wires leading away out of frame. The background, colored in shades of blue is divided into radial sections with lightning bolt edges. (All these colors are purely notional as the source material is all black and white.)Around the chair and the robot are four sets of equally-spaced concentric triple rings or some sort of energy or electricity. Riding the top edges of these rings is jaggedy, electric lettering reading 'Maybe it will happen today'.

Oh good, a new spam avenue: calendar invites. I’ve gotten at least three of these this week, all pretending to be a “missed voicemail” with raw html in the description that tries to spoof a Google Voice notification.
Screenshot of two calendar invites from spammy scammers. The meeting titles are variations on “you have a new voice message.”
