I could write a whole bunch about Chris but I’ll keep it brief and let him give you his own version! Chris cares deeply about the work, not just how it can look good for today but how it enables for the future it can set up. Any team would be lucky to learn with and from him as a software engineer!

Hire Chris! He's such an absolutely phenomenal dev and very few people can communicate code and architecture as effectively.

Have you tried any of the variants? I've been really enjoying @rangsk.bsky.social 's Sudoku Adventure series for the last year or so. They're all 6x6 variant puzzles and there's over 1000 at this point. Rangsk does a video solve that helps learn the logic of the different rules too.

I was recently building a version of the switcher from every-layout.dev/layouts/ and wanted the content to switch from "space between" to "center" when the wrap happens. I was able to kind of make the effect work without any breakpoints or wrap detection, but it's not 100% perfect at all widths

Heard the latest news from the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration? We detected the collision of the most massive pair of black holes so far: #GW231123 weighing in at ~137 + ~103 times the mass of the Sun! So to celebrate, here’s a handy chart ✨ Just how chonky are these black holes? 🤔

An infographic titled "How BIG are the BLACK HOLES we find with GRAVITATIONAL WAVES?" by @astronerdika. The graphic displays a range of black hole masses detected via gravitational waves, categorized by their size in solar masses (mass of the Sun) and represented with playful cat-like black hole illustrations.

The categories from left to right are:

1. "<5 times the mass of the Sun"
- Labeled "smol"
- Very small black hole illustration represented by a curled up black cat
- Arrow pointing left: "THIS WAY TO NEUTRON STARS"
- Example: "Big component of GW230529 (~3.6 times the mass of the Sun)"

2. "~10 times the mass of the Sun"
- Labeled "basic"
- Slightly larger black hole cat illustration
- Caption: "LOTS OF BLACK HOLES"

3. "~35–45 times the mass of the Sun"
- Labeled "hefty"
- Bigger black hole cat illustration
- Continues the idea of a populated range

4. ">60 times the mass of the Sun"
- Labeled "chonky"
- Large black hole cat illustration
- Caption: "FORBIDDEN TERRITORY? (can these even be made from the collapse of star cores?!)"
- Example: "Components of GW190521 (~85 + ~66 times the mass of the Sun)"

5. ">100 times the mass of the Sun"
- Labeled "oh lawd"
- Very large, curled-up black hole cat illustration
- Arrow pointing right: "THIS WAY TO INTERMEDIATE MASS BLACK HOLES"
- Example: "Components of GW231123 (~137 + ~103 times the mass of the Sun)"

Below the categories is a stylized black curve representing the inferred population of black holes detected by LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA. It rises sharply in the "basic" range and falls off toward the "hefty" and "chonky" ranges, with a note reading:
"this curve is an artistic representation of the black hole population inferred by LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA."

This infographic draws from the “Chonky Cat” meme.

I've got ~8 years of experience ranging from internal apps, dev tools, CMS/e-commerce sites, and accessibility audits. I'm a framework + language generalist too. I know a few other oregon-based devs with front end/back end experience looking for work too.

In an unfortunate turn of events, I got hit by another non-performance based layoff exactly a year after the last one. Looking for a new front end, full stack, or accessibility role ASAP. I've mostly done remote, but would be open to Seattle or Portland based roles. Reposts appreciated.

Thank you! I had similar experiences only getting referrals the last layoff but most of the places I know people aren't hiring at the moment. I've been skeptical of the cold-messaging strangers strategy because I haven't known anyone who had tried it directly. But it's good to know it can work!

Congrats! Could I ask what your job search strategy is? I feel like you've had more interviews scheduled than most people I've seen and I'd love to adjust my strategy a bit since I've had very little luck over the past month.

Okay gang, those who sling HTML, CSS, JS, which _Firefox_ bugs are blocking you? Which features do you think need improving? What new features would you like to see? What work would you prioritise? Big or small, bonus points for linking to a bug (even more for filing bugs then linking them)!

Happy #TransDayOfVisibility! If you’re a dev who’s ever done web stuff and used NPM, and especially if you enjoyed NPM catching up to Yarn ca. ~2018. If you’re a Rust dev who’s used miette, big-brain, cacache. If you like KDL. Then you’ve benefited from the work of a trans person.

(My kids are < 7) They like: - outfoxed - animal upon animal - candyland - Rhino Hero - Wild Kratts - Orchard game (we have the "my first" version)

Darrik Moberg @mdarrik.bsky.social · 11/02/2025

Our kids love board games. Cooperative board games are also a great intro, because then everyone wins or loses together vs one person winning over everyone else. Modeling good winning + losing behavior helps too. Some of the emotions around losing are socialized.

Darrik Moberg @mdarrik.bsky.social · 10/02/2025

If you're using it as an SMS app to text people not in signal, very likely. We replaced our text convos + video calls with signal chats. I'd start with moving people from telegram/what's app/Facebook messenger chats to signal. Or maybe if you have a group text with both iPhone & Android users.

000

Darrik Moberg @mdarrik.bsky.social · 10/02/2025

It's also a non-profit so there's no incentive for them to share your data to 3rd parties. There are layers to the privacy though. If you choose fisappearing messages, when the chat is gone, it's gone. Choosing an anonymous username makes it harder for someone to connect the chat to you

010

Darrik Moberg @mdarrik.bsky.social · 10/02/2025

Disclaimer: in tech, but not a security expert by any means. So it's private in that only the devices in the chats have access to the messages due to the encryption. Unlike other apps, every chat is encrypted. It's part of why journalists and others recommend it for talking off the record.

210

Darrik Moberg @mdarrik.bsky.social · 10/02/2025

We moved our household group chat to signal from another messaging app. On some level it is "just" a messaging app. On the other hand, most of the comparable messaging apps are ethically dubious and don't have the same privacy commitments. Happy to answer any specific q's if that would be helpful

110

Darrik Moberg @mdarrik.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

When the ban first happened my friend asked "what app am I going to use for pebbling now" and that was the most accurate depiction of my feelings and how I use the app that I've heard.

I'd definitely recommend Moonbase Theta, Out & Girl in Space if you like those two. Moonbase Theta, Out is also finished but is a bit less humorous (there are giant waterbears though) and it's very queer. Girl in Space has a lot more in common with Wolf 359 but isn't as complete (yet).
