#ManCity The Tories passed the Premier League law that basically says Independent panel has statutory duty to remove unfit owners BUT *exceptions* are owners of clubs whose removal affects international relationships. It was written for Man City and Newcastle no doubt. And totally unfair.

I didn't know there was a clause in removing unfit owner. If it affects international relationship. So owners of clubs who are not royalty or presidents can get thrown out but not the state run clubs? That is not a level playing field!

1/ Burnham’s Conference Speech: Positive signs for progressive politics, but the work isn’t done. 🧵 It’s been a tumultuous summer with a new PM. Continuing themes set out over the summer, Andy Burnham told Labour conference the country has been on the wrong path for 40 years.
A screenshot of a news headline from The Guardian. The top category text in red reads "Andy Burnham". The headline reads, "‘He feels more relatable’: Burnham’s conference speech wins praise from drifting Labour voters". Subheading: "The UK prime minister has earned his party a rehearing but the battle of public opinion is not yet won". Byline: Luke Tryl, published Saturday, 3 October 2026.

10/ On electoral reform: The PM agreed with conference votes, announced a national commission, and promised a manifesto commitment for a system where every vote counts. Only PR meets that test.

11/ This could reshape UK politics. The labour movement must prepare for a proportional voting system and its implications for our political culture. We welcome this, and will build a movement ready to put democratic socialist values into practice.

One aspect of Manchester City story massively underplayed is that England now has an independent football regulator Premier League lobbied against it - even hired Peter Mandelson's lobbying firm Global Counsel Tufton Street think tanks lobbied against it But now the regulator exists - and can act

The owner has a duty to make sure the club is run honestly. That has not happened for over a decade. Look they can't or won't admit their guilt. Because "loss of face" of a Royal institution. Knowing that:punitive action will have to be taken Man City owners fast + fines, restrictions and relegate

Apparently there is a statutory duty on governing bodies to remove unfit owners. After new rules (borrowed from FCA) came in fairly recently. So will the brother of Abu Dhabi's ruler be banned from owning a football club even when judgement says *** didn't know about wrongdoings. "Yes" Neville says

mcornbeef.bsky.social @mcornbeef.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Seriously though the most essential punishment imo is the removal of the current owners, who for obs reasons would fail "fit & proper" steward of a PL club. Although I don't think Andy Burnham communicating politically with Abu Dhabi should be encouraged. Even if his advice was beneficial to all.
