"Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation," Yeah pretty much this says it all. But people don't like the message, so they attack the messenger.

Trans: I don't have to understand trans nor do I want to NOR need to. They're human beings and I don't have to understand them to be decent to someone trans, let them live their lives as they choose, etc. THIS is how I argue for rights - I want EVERYONE treated the same no matter who they are.

Datacenters. To me, it's a bit like restricting CAFO's - all a matter of regulations AND research. You limit who, where, how, and impacts. EXAMPLES: REQUIRE them to pay for the new electricity. Don't allow incentives. 3000' minimum distance to a house. Water restrictions. Waste restrictions. ETC.

ONE thing I've noticed - AI does rather well at handling my typos. I have at endency to do what I just did - try to go to fast and make spaces after the character I'd intended. AI seems to handle and adjust to this rather well (or at least..... @claudecode.bsky.social handles this). Nice!

One of the things about AI I'm MOST thankful for? Having AI deal with NPM/PNPM/Javascript/UI work ;) it does VERY well at it and I no longer have to look at package.json or lockfiles or eslint or half a dozen other things that drove me insane. I'm a backend guy for sure!

I'm actively considering upgrading my #homelab to 10gb networking... but I KNOW many devices don't go to 10gb (older stuff)... but still thinking it'd help a LOT. Have to do a few upgrades on a few machines, and my NAS needs then a 10gb network card for sure...

A favorite thing to do as a developer is reduce lines of code. Reducing the amount of complexity, duplication, or otherwise simplifying codebases is one of the best feelings and one that doesn't happen NEAR enough. Refactoring helps, but so does "use standard libs" or "this is old/unused kill it"

AI: EVEN WITH latest models, STILL treat it like pair programming and you're the senior dev. It is getting better... but still misses things. "This returns a string, let me add JsonNode to parse the results" STOP - there ARE concrete classes to help! KNOW the libraries/SDKs/APIs you're using!

Allies are how we progress. Enemies are how we lose. Enemies & allies should be selected based upon how they treat their people. AND who someone looks up/chooses as friends/allies says more about them than most other actions. FYI I love #canada!

Unpopular opinion: Trump WAS right that Iran was an issue no one dealt/wanted to deal with. What he screwed up on was NO plan (not even a bad plan). Start publicly with allies, congress, goals, keep those consistent, etc. THEN go alone if needed. PLAN! It isn't wrong to step it. It's wrong HOW.

For those looking at git alternatives to github (to be fair it's up... mostly ... 99%? of the time). There's harness.io (disclosure I work for them, OSS: github.com/harness/harness), gitlab.com, about.gitea.com and other solutions (I like self-hosting). Re-evaluate regularly all of them!

ONE OF THE most annoying things I see in code lately is mocks that don't need to be mock objects. Just seeing today, cleaning up "mock out the #Micrometer registry" for SimpleRegistry objects. Even on http clients - use a real server for mock RESPONSES - helps identify framework issues!

For any "XP" programmers remembering paired programming. A lot of times, that's ALSO what AI feels. Sitting watching while a junior programmer works through various things. Only I can yell at AI - I'd not yell at a junior dev! NORMALLY a junior dev ALSO learns from their mistakes.

I don't have a lot of impact on my local legislature/government - one of the few blue in a massive red area but i CAN take action. I've installed a large solar system. My next vehicles will be electric. I've increased donations to Arbor Day & PBS & others. What are others doing?

*@#$^% The amount of times I had to tell AI this am "Look spring boot 4 defines jackson versions, DO NOT do it", and AI responds "spring boot 4 doesn't define jackson versions for 3 let me do this for you". 5 models are better, but still struggle at times. STILL DO NOT trust blindly!

joe.dev/posts/new-20... Love this from @h.olysh.it - this is the conversation about ai I’m having now with upper level engineers. Not the technical impacts but what are the cultural impacts. Who benefits is a big question in that.

I interact with many orgs "We're vmware. We migrated to Proxmox /nutanix/etc. k8s on hardware in datacenters! EKS/GKE! AWS EC2 only k8s is bad! ECS FTW! etc!" It's PEOPLE that drive this BUT not sure how much it really matters. AS LONG AS your CUSTOMERS are happy - i'm partial to on prem though!

Seriously about to drop #rook-ceph in my lab k8s cluster. Performance has been HORRIBLE(4x microk8s nodes on proxmox). NFS on truenas is performing REALLY well (also a VM). OR iSCSI with #democratic-csi or something else? COULD do #ceph via #proxmox & ceph-csi as an option. Thoughts?

At times I swear working with AI is like chasing my kids around. "Don't do that, do this!" "STOP, don't do that!" "No this is what I REALLY meant, let me explain in depth". "Did you really just do that?" "Apparently i didn't explain this right" 😮‍💨 Helps but can be very trying at times.

Gotta say... fable model is a lot like having an intelligent coworker, where sonnet/opus is more like a tool you use. Much more interesting and intelligent and solid responses. BUT gotta be careful of how much time you take of that coworker and isn't always right. I'm impressed though.

Burger King app SUCKS. I order through app. App crashes/stops responding half way to store. I restart app. Cart is still there, not seeing a purchase, hit purchase, and... now I have TWO charges on my card. I get only one order. BK says "we'll offer a coupon we can't refund". UGH.

The ONE good thing about AI for security purposes? FAR less "You're SPF records are wrong! DMARC! " kinds of reports. And by being scanned with decent AI, we're actually improving the whole ecosystem and finding what might have been zero day exploiters in the past.

"Coding has been drudgery, historically" - reading how AI solves this "problem". Coding is NOT drudgery for me and the devs I know. WE LIKE coding. People are missing that AI is taking away what was fun for a lot of people - like using AI to do a puzzle/game. Yes I use AI but I still MISS coding.

Oy. build issues last few days on #spinnaker. NPM publishing broke (moved to trusted publishing). THEN Testcontainers broke - GHA runner upgrades. THEN spotless plugin issue just... lot of weird quirks ALL at once on builds made for a LONG few days fixing builds. BUT new releases are out!

IMHO: Observability platforms are rarely something you should build. The commercial vendors like @honeycomb.io or newrelic are worth EVERY penny (Grafana is ok but go cloud & try honeycomb first). "do-it-yourself" is for CORE business PRODUCTS! Then apply this to CD/CI/SSO/Git/etc.

"IF you're not cheating [in war], you ain't trying". I've heard variations of this theme. In programming: If you aren't using AI, you aren't trying. You still got to WATCH it's results (claude just tried to write a test by text code to add the checks ugh). BUT still can save a LOT of time

SO I've ported most of my stuff to OpenTofu at this point. I'm curious though... what about packer? Packer in particular is STILL THE DEFACTO solution for AMI/machine image building. I've not seen an equivalent fork near to the quality of Tofu for this...?

Will never ever buy: Movie, Song, etc. off of ANY online store. BUY the dvd & convert for home. Go with GOG for games. This is the way (THANK YOU Handbrake/others). Works on Kodi, Plex, kids tablets. NO nightmare of licensing/access issues. I'm considering moving away from streaming too lately.

can we make it 3 more years? :( How much of the world will be broken even more than it does today? TRADITIONAL Republican GOALS - smaller government, balanced budget, etc. SOME good ideals but not always VIABLE but understandable. Reality is so different and the party has lost it's path.

Was a potential juror for Jury duty. The defendant was a person of color. Defense attorney question - does law enforcement target those of color more than not? VERY FEW said "yes" to this (I was one). I don't know if few thought yes or no one wanted to speak up. I find that concerning...

Translating promql grafana queries into otel clickhouse queries... Claude generated some interesting results. Helps with the basic query stuff, but as always gotta tweak it. Still somewhat of a timesaver from writing it ALL by scratch (though many were ALREADY copy/paste). Still required work

Moving from prometheus to clickhouse on my lab. Can't easily capture "this change event" in obs1.0 NEED DATA, not "metrics". But... grafana: I can do it but it sucks UI, config wise, searching, etc. without a LOT of work. Go with @honeycomb.io or NewRelic or some other vendor for prod.
