New growth on trees is always interesting. The vibrant green of beech trees on the Udny Estate in Aberdeenshire is on my dog walking route and is my entry this week for; #sharemondays2026 #FSprintmonday

Allium Hollandicum, Purple Sensation from my garden. The image shows the energy of the umbel as it is about to burst from its bud. It’s shot with a very shallow depth of field so that only the vibrant purple head is in focus before it explodes like a purple firework.

Expectations of some lovely bright, sunny images were dashed with several days of rain and thunderstorms during a week in Verona and Lake Garda. Still managed some good contrast and mood despite the conditions. #fsprintmonday #sharemondays2026

One of a few rainy day wanders around the historic city centre of Verona. People are sheltering in doorways to avoid the drizzle. Colourful umbrellas punctuate the gloomy atmosphere of the dark,
narrow streets. Light filters down the alleys and reflects the brightness off the marble and tarmac pavements and streets. Bright clothing has a darker tone from endured soaking.

Oil seed rape fields are just beginning to bloom in rural Aberdeenshire as the temperatures rise and daylight lengthens. A beautiful big blue sky and wonderfully fluffy clouds along with the Pitmedden community trust wind turbine in the distance complete a fairly minimal idyllic scene.

Late Sunday and no discernible image for #sharemondays2026 and #FSprintmonday Took a walk along the Tarland Burn and caught this ripple in the stream.

Early evening stroll in Aboyne. Ripple in the Tarland Burn caught me eye when nothing else was. It’s only a small stream, straightened by man at some point and flowing relatively fast. One of very few ripples, shaded by a wood and steep banks. The light lands on the ripple and highlights it. The sun is setting so it’s getting dark. 1/20th of a second is enough to allow motion blur but freeze the highlighted wave. Dark patches allow translucent glimpses of pebbles below.

Walk the same selection of routes everyday with the 🐕. Normally, I stick to roughly the same compositions from interesting scenes, but occasionally all the elements align and something new appears. Light, mist and a lone tree before a majestic sky is my #sharemondays2026 entry #fsprintmonday

A lone horse chestnut during a dull period when the weather broke and some lovely light and mist changed the outlook completely. A dramatic blue sky appeared along with some wispy clouds providing leading lines pointing towards the focal point of the tree.

Aberdeen Art Gallery roof is my #sharemondays2026 entry for this week

Aberdeen Art Gallery has a glass roof held up by large white beams. The wall where the beens join, has black vertical stripes that make the beams look like they curve where the stripes transect the outer beams. The distortion from the lens also exaggerates this effect.
Light from the roof is diffused by snow and the light from within the gallery atrium gives the internal structure a radiant warm glow on the white surfaces.

Rishan from my now cancelled Journeys project. She escaped religious persecution in Eritrea and travelled across the Sahara and through Libya aged only 15, eventually making it to Kent. She has now qualified as an NHS nurse to give something back to the country which gave her sanctuary.

Aberdeenshire was a whiteout this week. Most of my images, many of which are still in camera, lack colour. My #sharemondays2026 image for this week is one of a few with some subtle colour. #FSprintmonday

Not far from my house are several fields that are completely enclosed by trees. When it snowed this week the dog and I loved wandering about knee deep in these fields looking for interesting compositions of the snow covered trees and fields. This image shows a section of trees in one of those fields back lit by the setting sun late one afternoon. The field is snow covered, bright white. The trees still have snow on the branches, giving them some definition. The sky is dusky blue at the east slowly increasing in brightness to yellow in the western sunset.

A lovely clear sky with wispy clouds provided a great morning for a blurry beach scene. There was an array of colours visible. Yellows and orange as the sun rose. A deep blue sky with a pink diagonal flash from the clouds. A cool blue sea with a stream transversing a dark beach.

Last month I was bemoaning the lack of subjects on Aberdeen Art Gallery stairs. Thankfully, festive footfall gave me a lot more choice this month. Seasonal joy to everyone for the festive period. #sharemondays2025 #FSprinmonday

Aberdeen art gallery staircase is very dark. It has natural light from a gap to the atrium and LED light from its bannisters. One of which is recessed and clad in copper for a lovely warm glow. Four people are at the top of the stairs, one of which is a small child. Everything is blurred by slowing the shutter and moving the camera, a technique known as Intentional Camera Movement or ICM
