22 Sept 1797 // Frigate HMS Hermione was handed to the Spanish by men of her own crew following the bloodiest mutiny in Royal Navy history. The mutineers revolted against their brutal captain, Hugh Pigot, whose mix of savage discipline and blatant favouritism had made his ship into a hell afloat.
