Peace is only possible when both - or all - sides want it. War can be imposed by just one side on another. As long as people believe that war and aggression are unavoidable, they will be. Fact is: Most of these people‘s belief is based on fear.

A few hours-long raid on Venezuela is a war. But a conflict with Iran that has lasted for months and killed thousands of Iranians, including a whole school building full of kids and about 2 dozen Americans, that has critically depleted our forces and upended the global economy: that’s an excursion.

How long until Trump proclaims Catholic & Protestant branches of Christianity in the US "Church of America“? He envies the (American) Pope‘s intelligence & influence, already sounds like Henry VIII (founder of the Church of England for those who don’t know) & loves to rename things. Your guess?

'Extremely scary findings' show climate crisis is supercharging Europe's wildfire weather
The extreme heat and drought stoking huge wildfires in Spain and France were made far more likely by the climate crisis, a scientific analysis has found. Global heating made hot, dry and windy weather at least 20 times more likely in Spain and twice as likely in France, experts from the World Weather Attribution (WWA) consortium calculated. The finding is the latest to pin the blame for the continent’s sweltering and deadly summer firmly on the heating caused by the burning of oil, gas and coal. The intense heatwave at the end of June, which is estimated to have killed 20,000 people, could not have happened without the extra heat trapped by carbon pollution, a previous WWA study showed. Another found that the climate crisis-driven heat was “sucking soils dry” as extreme drought spread across Europe. Searing heat and parched land led to very high “daily severity ratings”, the metric that was used in the new analysis and which measures how severe a wildfire will be if ignited. Studies of the 2025 wildfires also found they were supercharged by the climate crisis. This year’s wildfires in western Europe have been made worse by a wet winter and spring, which boosted...

‘We stared into an abyss’: the men and women battling France’s megafire
Exhausted firefighters, foresters and volunteers wage ‘war of attrition’ against blaze that forced 200,000 people from their homes By noon it is time for a break. The temperature is about 35C, the smell of ash, cinders and burnt wood hang acrid in the air. At tables laid out in the shrinking shade on the desiccated grass and sand outside the sports centre in Le Porge, 200 men and a handful of women have gathered. Firefighters, soldiers, police, gendarmes, officials, first aid teams, foresters and volunteers sit elbow to elbow, plates of sausages, steak and potatoes in front of them. The village was evacuated just over 14 hours after the “megafire” – as it has become known in France – broke out 6km away last week. The blaze has consumed 42,000 hectares (104,000 acres) of mainly forestland west of Bordeaux. Though finally contained, there are outbreaks every day, pushing to the limit emergency services and the hundreds of amateurs who have come to their aid. Continue reading...

The Covid pandemic was a challenge we could have mastered a lot better had we been able to cooperate across nations. We failed. The climate crisis and the terrible wildfires raging across so many countries can only be stopped if we rise to the occasion and COOPERATE. Instead, Trump imposes tariffs.
