In a government by, of and for the people, the right to vote is sacred. That’s why today I joined Reps. Morelle, Walkinshaw, Scott, Subramanyam and Vindman for a shadow hearing on the importance of securing our elections and protecting the integrity of American democracy.

As a state senator, I was proud to carry the legislation making Virginia the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in 2020. RATIFIED tells the story of how we did it. I joined the filmmaker and members of the team for a screening and discussion.

I am saddened to hear of Jim Ukrop’s passing. As a businessman, philanthropist and civic leader, there was no bigger booster for the City of Richmond. Jim’s passion for closing the racial divides in the former Capital of the Confederacy knew no limits.

The biennal Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) now heads to the Senate.”

Republicans failed to repeal the ACA because it’s popular. Instead, they have tried to inflict death by a thousand cuts through as many schemes as they can to undermine it. Everyone deserves to access the care they need it when they need it. I’ll keep fighting to ensure they get it.

When hospitals close their labor and delivery units, pregnant patients have to travel farther for care. For rural communities, this can mean the difference between life and death. During a Health Care Subcommittee hearing, I shared how the Rural Obstetrics Readiness Act that I cosponsor will help.

With an Administration that too often ignores or violates the limits on government and the rights of the people established in that document, and Congressional Republicans who refuse to serve as a check on these impulses, it is up to each and every American to ensure we keep it.

McClellan Speaks to Ensure People Don't Pay the Price for Data Centers
YouTube video by Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan
051
Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 17/09/2026
But while these bills are an important first step, they do not go far enough to be the last. Congress must also pursue greater regulation for data center projects, address the impact they have on energy demand and the environment and bring renewable energy sources online in a more significant way.
142
Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 17/09/2026
These bills begin to move us in the right direction. From the Ratepayer Protection Act’s work to ensure data centers are paying their fair share, to bills ensuring we do not overbuild data center infrastructure, these policies give the government tools to enforce fairer outcomes for consumers.
122
Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 17/09/2026
Consequently, the federal government must play a bigger role in ensuring that the costs to power these data centers do not get passed on to consumers and small businesses. As the data center capital of the globe, Virginia knows this struggle all too well.
122
Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 17/09/2026
In a growing digital world in which U.S. households have on average 21 devices connected to the Internet, more activities are conducted online and other technology continue to advance, the number of data centers has grown at a more rapid pace than our current electric infrastructure can handle.
121
Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 17/09/2026
Today, I voted in favor of four bills that take a first step in ensuring that the burden of rising energy costs falls on the large-load customers who create increased demand. Here’s what you should know about the Ratepayer Protection Act and other bills to ensure data centers pay their fair share 🧵

Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 16/09/2026
To address Russia’s war in Ukraine, we need substantive action that both sanctions Russia and its allies for their aggression and equips Ukraine with the tools necessary to defend itself and push back against Putin’s war machine. This is not that legislation. For that reason, I voted no.
041
Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 16/09/2026
In a government that hinges on checks and balances, we cannot further cede Congress’s constitutional authority to levy tariffs and allow the executive to operate with total tariff power.
131
Rep. Jennifer McClellan @mcclellan.house.gov · 16/09/2026
And Trump, just off the heels of starting an unnecessary trade war with Canada, has given every indication that he would exploit this power to entrench the American people in more trade wars, which would only further drive up costs.
