As a state senator, I was proud to carry the legislation making Virginia the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in 2020. RATIFIED tells the story of how we did it. I joined the filmmaker and members of the team for a screening and discussion.

For over a thousand years before European settlers arrived, the Chickahominy people lived along the Chickahominy River. This weekend, I joined the 74th Annual Chickahominy Indian Tribe Fall Festival & Pow-Wow to bring greetings and celebrate their history, culture and traditions.

I am saddened to hear of Jim Ukrop’s passing. As a businessman, philanthropist and civic leader, there was no bigger booster for the City of Richmond. Jim’s passion for closing the racial divides in the former Capital of the Confederacy knew no limits.

ICYMI: last week, the House passed the 2026 WRDA. The bill included three initiatives I requested to better manage flood control for the James and Appomattox Rivers, increase funding for the Chesapeake Bay Oyster Recovery Program, and improve water infrastructure for Henrico County!

Today, we remember and honor the nearly 3,000 people killed 25 years ago in terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon and those on UA Flight 93 who sacrificed their lives to save countless others. We also show our gratitude to the first responders who rushed into danger to save lives.

Did you know that in Virginia, moms can breastfeed in public anywhere that they are lawfully present?  And employers must provide accommodations for moms to pump breastmilk? August is National Breastfeeding Month, and I want to make sure moms have the support they need to breastfeed their babies.
