So excited to share the Grid love with @teachbetterteam.bsky.social Ambassadors tonight!

I had no clue I could create standards-aligned materials, especially as my state updated its standards six months ago. Also, the interactive videos and curated text-based materials are wonderful! I can't wait to play with them more (and share with my department).

Don't mind me, over here, doing a @quizizz.bsky.social ELA innovator micro-course over my lunch break and freaking the heck out at all the things I didn't know quizizz could do 🤯

I'd forgotten the chaos that erupts when a class spies flurries out the window... #FirstSnowfall

Sounds like someone who never had a kid in daycare or has not stepped foot in a classroom for years. The number of kids who come to class sick 🤦🏻‍♀️ Classrooms (and kids) are petri dishes!

Welcome! He's made me more aware of the importance of fashion. I find it interesting.

So, might be random, but if you haven't heard of Derek Guy (@dieworkwear.bsky.social), he takes an awesome look at fashion through a historical and political lens.

I agree! I was frustrated when my district rolled out new grading requirements that are counter to what I believe (and made me backtrack on things I was doing). Also, I would recommend ‘15 Fixes for Bad Grades’ and ‘Fair Isn’t Always Equal’ for further reading. (I added some of yours to me TBR.)

This saved my sanity tonight, for sure! #EduSkyChat

A3: I think Brisk is my Ed tech try. I have a school Google for Edu account that won’t run it, so I need the time and mental bandwidth to play with it on my personal account. #EduSkyChat

I’ve been well. How are you? Every time I get a TeachBetter email, I think of you (fondly). #EduSkyChat

Same! Building my PLN (like I did before the bird app crashed and burned) is so wonderful. #EduSkyChat

Megan Balduf, NBCT @mbalduf.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

I just learned about this at a conference but haven’t had time to play much, especially as I found it doesn’t work with my work Google, only my personal account. Seems like it would be pretty helpful, though. #EduSkyChat

A2: New favorite Edtech tool is probably quizizz. Same kinds of gamification as other sites but less head-to-head competition (not as ruthless) AND an option for mastery learning. #EduSkyChat

Evening Stefanie! Sorry I missed you at AMLE.

A1: Classic Ed tech tool I rely on is Google Forms, especially the branching forms. Great for so many contexts. #EduSkyChat

Megan, middle school English teacher a little late to the #EduSkyChat party!

A1: My grading philosophy is grounded in feedback feedback feedback. The point should be, by the time we do something that "counts", you've had lots of practice and feedback from me. All my kids have As? Excellent! Means they know the material. #UngradingChat

I miss EdChats so much it sometimes hurts my soul. Those conversations kept me sane in 2020, grounded in 2021, and growing in 2022.

I'm lucky to have a great running community, and I know they'll help. I fell on a solo run, so I know the next time I'm on my own will be the hardest.

I have a great running community, but the fear of another fall feels so so big.

A3: I'm hesitant about getting back into running. I fell a few weeks back during my long run and ended up in the ER. I'm set to run my first marathon in January, so I need to run, but I have a trauma reaction that didn't exist before. #PopUpChat

When a kid says "I don't get this," I ask them to be specific, about what they don't understand, even to the point of asking stupid questions, like, "Do this direction to read the story make sense?" When they side-eye me, I point out they "get" something. #PopUpChat

Hey David! ELA is English Language Arts. It's based on the idea that Literature and Reading and Composition are art forms. #PopUpChat

For quite a while, my #edutwitter feed has been filled with hard politics and snark, and while education is inherently political, I want to get back to where I can share ideas and learn from others. Excited about the possibilities of #edusky

I had a similar convo at a state-level conference in March. All the big ed organizations hold their annual conferences across the same three weekends in November. Makes it hard to attend more than one. #amle #nagc #ncte
