Today as we reflect on 25 years since September 11th 2001, it’s important to remember what unites us as a community as we join together in Davis Square this evening as we grieve those taken from us on that tragic day.

My op-ed for @bostonglobe.com www.bostonglobe.com/2026/06/04/o... CSO’s are a regional challenge and we need more financial support from state and federal aid to properly prepare and create infrastructure to deal with them, this is much more than just a Somerville issue.

My statement on the incident in Davis Square this morning. Full statement also posted to somervillema.gov/news.

The Somerville Police are actively investigating an assault with a knife-like weapon that occurred this morning on Holland Street between persons believed to be known to one another. Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening, and first and foremost my thoughts are with them and wishes for their full recovery.

I am extremely upset for the victim and the community. Our public spaces have to be safe and welcoming for everyone. We know residents are frustrated and concerned, and rightly so. We launched new interventions, protocols, and increased patrol efforts this spring, and we are fully committed to making sure people start to feel a noticeable impact of these efforts this summer and beyond.

I want to thank Somerville Police Chief Benford and all of our emergency responders for their quick response and ongoing investigation. Public safety is the topmost responsibility of local government, and we’re going to keep showing up and doing the work.

Meeting loved ones with grace, understanding, and comfort when navigating the aftermath of sexual violence is what empowers victims to step forward. Let's make that change together here in our community and start by believing.

I'm proud to declare the first Wednesday of every April to be Start By Believing Day. Victims of sexual violence are often met with doubt or shame, causing additional negative effects to their wellbeing.

“Everyone has a plan until they’ve been hit.” - Joe Louis

As we dig out of this historic snowstorm (the eighth-biggest storm in recorded Boston history), I am so proud of the way Somerville neighbors came together to help one another. I am also extremely proud of my DPW staff, who worked day and night in perilous conditions, to clear us out of this storm. The team mobilized quickly to clear the schoolyards and streets, and ensure a safe school reopening on Tuesday, and DPW is continuing snow operations all week. I am also proud of their growth mindset. They proactively identified the areas where we fell short, and are making quick changes to be ready for another potential storm this weekend.

Thank you Chris! Snow will of course be cleared proactively, but we do want to know if any locations need more attention than others and submitting them through @311somerville.bsky.social helps DPW get to them.

Mayor Jake Wilson @mayorjakewilson.bsky.social · 28/01/2026

Understandable Marion, but we still need the work orders submitted to @311somerville.bsky.social for documentation and data collection. DPW continues to work non stop to clear snow from streets, bike lanes and city owned property. Thank you for reporting the locations.
