Seattle’s small businesses are the soul of our neighborhoods and help build a resilient, diverse economy for all. They employ our neighbors, invest in our communities, and make this city unique. So which small business is your favorite? Drop it in the comments!

In Seattle, we won't stand for that. That's why I was proud to sign our first-in-the-nation ban on algorithmic price fixing in grocery stores, protecting shoppers and small grocers alike.

Grocery prices are skyrocketing, and Seattleites are working extra shifts, taking second and third jobs and cutting back on other necessities just to keep up. But for some grocery corporations, our struggle is another opportunity for profit.

Graham Street station is a win for south Seattle and equitable transit in our city. Thank you to the community coalition that organized for this station over many years and to King County Executive Zahilay and my other colleagues on the Sound Transit board who voted to support making it a reality.

Domestic workers care for our children, our elders, our homes, and our families. Their work makes so much of our lives possible. To every domestic worker who has gone to work without the dignity and protections you deserve: this is for you.

Earlier this week, I signed legislation sponsored by Councilmember Rinck that builds on our groundbreaking 2019 ordinance by requiring written agreements from employers, ensuring advance notice of termination, strengthening protections against retaliation, and more.

Twelve years ago, Seattle became the first major city in the country to adopt a path toward a $15 minimum wage. Working people make Seattle run. When costs rise, wages should, too.

On January 1st, Seattle’s minimum wage will increase to $22.14 per hour, no matter your employer. This victory *for* working people was won *by* working people: organizers, unions, and community members who made history on May Day, 2014.

Every family deserves access to healthy food. That’s why, in my first budget, I have proposed making permanent $10 million worth of investments to fight food insecurity in Seattle. Together, we’re building a city where no family has to choose between rent and groceries.
