Emberiza calandra is only found in just over 10% of Sussex tetrads and it is a Red-listed bird but still around (this one at #BirlingGap), Once known as the Common Bunting (Bunting being a name going back hundreds of years) and known for its ‘jangling keys’ song. #sussexbirding

Reading @btobirds.bsky.social News: this chap having finished his breeding season in Scotland was adventurous returning to Africa flying East across Scotland to cross the North Sea to visit Denmark, Sweden, Poland and then Germany! He is called Bean if you want to see what he does next year!

I stared hard at this faded specimen at #BeachyHead at the weekend amongst blue Common Blue. Clouded Yellow as ever this summer were common and colourful. Others included Small Copper and Small Heath and Speckled Wood. @savebutterflies.bsky.social

White & blue reflections - Egretta garzetta at #CuckmereHaven 26/9. It used to be that the commonest Ardeid here was the Grey Heron whereas 1 counted 3 of those I counted 36 Little Egret - how things have changed! @sussexornitholo.bsky.social #sussexbirding

Pinnipeds a plenty at #ThorneyIsland last weekend. When I see them in East Sussex Harbour Seals tend to be Rye Harbour seals whilst Grey are more likely to be ‘bottling’, either way they are curious. Here though both are hauled out for a snooze. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social
