"Why could I not access Bluesky even though I am not on a Bluesky PDS?" 🧵 Bluesky is made up of a lot of different parts that work together to show this post to you, with the PDS being just one part of that. You can think of Bluesky PBC, the company, similar to a public utility company.

hmm since there seems to be mastodon discourse more intensely than other times, i wanna say that (IF YOU WANT) bridging from bluesky would be nice because tbh most of the users that i see bridging from here are mostly the same kinds that are already in the fediverse and it is killing me lmao

In light of the meltdown happening rn from Bsky, I want to offer a potential alternative social media. As I've mentioned before, I run a Mastodon server for Black queers at blackqueer.life. While the fediverse/Mastodon at large is very white, we have a small tight knit community going since 2023. 🧵

marsh @maybe-zubat.selfhosted.social · 04/10/2025

anyway, i'll probably not be posting here except boosts and replies when the drama dies down. i'll find other things to do with this account that aren't microblogging: maybe chat on stream.place, do some leaflet.pub, maybe tangled.sh. i've always said that i'm not into how exposed i am on here

marsh @maybe-zubat.selfhosted.social · 03/10/2025

btw is there anyone using bridgy fed who is explaining atproto properly? i wanna boost it on my bridged fediverse account that has way more followers than this acc

I do understand why ppl worry about the new guidelines but … ❌ Spamming UNTAGGED nsfw will NOT change anything nor does it prove a point – it does the opposite: It proves the point that ppl arent diligent in tagging NSFW so u can't trust them with labeling things by themselves to keep minors safe

aral balkan built for mastodon what i wanted to build for palestinians on bluesky but which doesn’t require its own pds because afaik mastodon isn’t mass-censoring palestinian accounts

one of the most baffling things is watching people blame this on their fellow (usually younger/immature) internet denizens rather than the wave of conservative censorship motivated by a christofascist idealogy that pervades all aspects of life to take away the barest forms of individual expression

I *do* want to know if folks are working on genuine replacements that use atproto and *aren't hosted in the US*, because that would be the best option since it's less a migration and more walking across the street to another house in the same neighborhood.
