@jensimmons.bsky.social any idea when Safari will support random() in CSS?

What’s the German word for when you’re a designer and look at a piece of software and just get sad because you see the potential it had?

maxvoltar @maxvoltar.be · 20/08/2026

Ah should’ve mentioned that.

maxvoltar @maxvoltar.be · 20/08/2026

Yeah need to investigate that. It should be set to “always allow” but that’s only an option in the second modal.

maxvoltar @maxvoltar.be · 20/08/2026

That was the main inspiration 🙂

Install, give it access to everything (yes, everything, all the time), let it run a couple of days. You won’t see anything right away. You can turn off (anonymized) crash reports in the onboarding flow, but it’d be helpful if you kept them on.

Been noodling on my iOS day tracker some more, and while it’s still rough around the edges, I’d love to start getting more feedback. 100% private, your data never leaves your device. testflight.apple.com/join/hReJU1r9

ADHD is finally after years of trying to figure something out, going “oh my god it’s so simple, all I need to do is…” and then POOF 2 other thoughts pop up and you’re back to square one.

Agentic coding is enabling the renaissance of indie software.

Created my first Glaze app which allows you to quickly search for and insert SF Symbols. Great for iOS/macOS designers/developers. www.glaze.app/app/sf-symbo...

Ngl, I think agentic coding might be indie software’s savior.

oh man that got a proper chuckle

Some details: using GPS data your phone already records, pulling locations from Apple Maps, tagging people from your address book, adding photos from your camera roll. All on-device.

Oooooh will check it out! What’s their handle here?

Being bed/couch ridden all week, I decided to put some more work in this app idea I had during Config. It’s basically a private and automated version of Gowalla, inspired by the Moves app (for those who remember).

Beautifully executed "non-work" site by @maxvoltar.be - maxvoltar.com #noteworthy

Ahhhh thanks for the reminder, was on my list after moving everything over to Cloudflare.

No, started in code and stayed there.

Did my best to translate the experience to mobile too.

Ahead of next week’s excitement, I just pushed a new website live. Introducing: The non-work. maxvoltar.com

(I consider earlier skeuomorphic versions of iOS to be the rebellious teenage years where some mistakes were made but lots of valuable lessons were learned)

Operating systems are ecosystems. They should invite and inspire experimentation so everyone from Apple to 3rd party designers can learn from each other and evolve the system (like has happened over the past decade), not prescribe a narrow vision.

iOS has always been humble. Groundbreaking, but humble. Except for iOS 7 and iOS/macOS 26, both absolutely dripping with executive ego.

My favorite (underrated) font right now: At Umami. I've designed keycaps with it, used it for branding, heck it's currently the font I use on my ereader since it's so pleasant to look at. arillatype.studio/font/at-umami

Brussels (stop #2 on the Fine Specimens book tour) was incredible! Thanks so much to @waterstones.bsky.social for hosting us, Paddy for leading our conversation, and everyone who came (especially @maxvoltar.be, @drbparsons.bsky.social, Danny Calders, @matratype.bsky.social, and Kaat Vandenbroeck).

I love the iPhone camera’s portrait mode, but feel like it’s a bit aggressive with the depth of field. However, opening the photo in edit mode and dialing it back to f8 usually results in something looking like it was shot with proper glass.

Some of these tools only have a single purpose, needed once. And that’s ok.
