Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Sure, but I just think that it’s counterintuitive to invite someone to join the party at the point they are criticising the party’s decision making. 100
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Why would someone join a political party if they don’t agree with the political issues that it prioritises? This is a genuine question - I just don’t understand the logic at all! 100

Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026All of which of is anecdotal, but it never felt like an expectation from my POV that people would have annual holidays abroad via plane in the 00s. 010
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I was from a v. comfortably middle class family and my first foreign holiday was in 1999 (ferry to Northern France). First flight was in 2003 and it only became an annual thing for us in the late 00s (and only one holiday per year). Lots of my mates didn't do hols abroad at all when we were kids. 111

Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I mean, Trump is the reason right? The person in charge is visibly the root cause of a range of these issues in a way that GWB wasn’t in 2008. 000
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 28/09/2026The only rational reason to do it is as a negotiation tactic, i.e. you assume that people will bid under the asking regardless of what you list for so better to list higher as an opening position? Suspect it's much more likely to be greed being overly optimistic about what you can get though! 000

Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Think it's v. hard once someone with (claimed) expertise tells you it's possible to get a higher price to feel comfortable lowering it, esp. if you've started viewing other properties which depend on you getting that higher price. Although, tbh we also saw lots of houses that were v. overpriced too. 150
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 28/09/2026When I was selling my flat I got a *huge* range of prices from EAs. We went with one in the middle and still had to reduce price during the exclusivity period to even start getting viewings. We ended up cancelling the contract at the end of that period and selling back to the Council. 110
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 26/09/2026All of the streaming services let you choose the genre you want the release to appear as, but there’s also a secondary genre that isn’t shown but is tagged and you can tag similar artists (none of which shows up for listeners). I suspect that plus people with similar taste to you listen to it. 261
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Fundamentally I think you do have to blame the council, they’re the one that leaseholders actually hold a contract with, but there are a lot of contractors behaving in deeply cynical, shameless ways through exploiting council’s carelessness. 020
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Yes, in my experience one of the big issues was the inability of the Council to effectively QA contractor’s work. That was both in terms of individual repairs (no one checks if the work was completed) or at a macro level i.e. asking why a building has the same issue reoccurring all the time. 110
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I mean, why fix the issue properly when that means only getting the call out fee once, when you could not fix it at all and get that fee multiple times? 100

Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Incredible that anyone would seriously argue that Breaking Bad is better than The Wire. Also, absurd to claim that almost all the best TV of the century so far is American and/or English language. 000
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 24/09/2026People are desperate to have a take on everything. The simple answer (someone committing multiple crimes and filming it should be arrested) is boring and won't get me attention for saying, therefore the opposite (we should allow him to continue his crime spree) must be the right answer. 1181
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Whilst this is interesting, I think it needs to be taken with a big pinch of salt. I suspect the impacts of tactical voting and an actual campaign will influence the result of the next election a lot. However, v. clear that FPTP is going to create massive chaos whenever the next election is. 000
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I mean, scientifically there’s only one solution - get to net zero carbon emissions. Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026We have workable solutions that are available *now* and which are only decreasing in cost as time goes on. In response you have ventured speculative solutions that don't currently exist. 010
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026But John, what this summer has shown is that the cost of inaction is huge. Food prices are going to spike next year because of crop failures. Schools shutting because of heat. Tens of thousands of excess deaths. All of this caused by climate change. All of which will be worse if we don't get to NZ. 110
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026And even if point 2 were correct, is this a good way to make policy? If public opinion turned against vaccines, should we stop offering them to people? Sometimes the public is wrong/misguided and politicians' job is to *lead* rather than just respond to that. 100
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026John's entire argument rests on two false premises: 1. Action on NZ is more expensive than inaction. Gas price spikes in recent years alone show that's not true, let alone the economic impact of climate change. 2. Public opinion on NZ is turning, w/o providing any evidence to support this. 130
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026As I've said - the premise of your idea is provably false. The primary driver of rising costs is fossil fuel scarcity, not the cost of renewable electricity (or even the cost associated with building the infrastructure) and renewable energy *can* be cheaper than fossil fuels. 130
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026And the promise of cheap energy in the future post-building NZ infrastructure isn't an unproven idea. In Australia there is a currently available tariff where electricity is free for three hours a day because of a solar surplus: www.theguardian.com/environment/...theguardian.comMany Australians can get three free hours of power from today. Here’s howResidents of Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia with a smart meter can access the Solar Sharer energy offer from 1 July 130
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I think the last half decade has shown that the primary driver of cost rises in energy have been related to the volatility of the wholesale gas/oil market. Prices spiked post-Russian invasion of Ukraine and the closure of the strait of Hormuz. They didn't spike because of net zero. 120
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026You’re criticising real solutions to a real problem (net zero to fight climate change) and suggesting made-up solutions to fight a made-up problem (block out the sun because the public don’t like NZ action). 140
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026And your suggested alternatives include “dimming the sun” which would be incredibly expensive, do nothing for energy prices and ignores the wide range of solutions already available to us. 130
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026The crux of your argument is that the public don’t like NZ so we shouldn’t do it. The evidence doesn’t back that up - in fact it is one of the policy areas with the highest levels of public support. YouGov polling showed 60% support it last December. 130
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 21/09/2026It’s incredible that after a summer where we have truly begun to see the devastating effects of climate change that big sections of the “sensible” media class have decided that it’s time to abandon net zero. It’s imperative that we ignore them. 150
Max Templer @maxtempler.bsky.social · 18/09/2026The idea that the perpetrators of these attacks have “legitimate concerns” is so obviously insane. Their concerns are not legitimate. Their methods are criminal. This is fairly straightforwardly terrorism. Non-far right groups have been branded such for far less than this. 021
