New paper! Despite qualitative researchers claiming that generalizability is not a goal, their published work does indeed contain generalizable claims. We document this and provide recommendations for how all researchers can better calibrate their generalizability claims. doi.org/10.1177/2515...

Such a shame. Project Implicit data is the foundation for most of my work and a true treasure trove for academics from underresourced institutions.

I am sad to share that Project Implicit, my first non-profit and foundation of my career, is closing. The IAT website will continue, managed by the next generation of leaders in implicit bias research. Here's the statement I posted to LinkedIn. It didn't vibe right as a bsky thread.

Prior research has cast doubt on the validity of implicit measures, finding small correlations amongst indirect measures of racial bias. However, these measures vary systematically on key procedural aspects. 🧵👇 Open thread below:

I'm indeed talking about the Arel-Bundock / Rohrer / Heiss type of marginal effect! Many readers are confused when my paper includes a phrase like "significant marginal effect" - however I feel that it is important to distinguish the marginal effects from regression coefficients.

Max Primbs @maxprimbs.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
Thank you for your answer! However, I was talking about marginal effects as used by the blogpost Mark Brandt linked below. The meaning of marginal effects you talk about is the other meaning which is currently making my life difficult!

Max Primbs @maxprimbs.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
Are there any other words for marginal effects I could use for a psychological audience? We keep getting pushback about the term (despite explaining what we mean by marginal effects) and it's becoming extremely annoying.

I think it depends on the result: A null result or a finding that goes against established knowledge might be harder to publish in a good journal compared to findings that confirm hypotheses. With a RR you ensure that your paper will be published in a nice journal regardless of what you find.

Max Primbs @maxprimbs.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
RRs tend to be more detailed and adherence to the registration will be enforced / checked. You also get additional input on data analysis choices. Some journals distinguish between RRs based on new versus existing data, so make sure to check what the journals in your field accept.

Max Primbs @maxprimbs.bsky.social · 27/05/2026
I think the biggest advantage of a registered report here would be to ensure that your work will be published in a nice journal based on having done a really cool study, no matter what the findings are. I also don't know if I agree on the functionally equivalent part.
