Yup. They showed it in the movie too but they weren't as detailed so you could ignore it somewhat. It's still a critical failure of the story but you can ignore it for the fun.

They're fundamentally different. My big hangup now is that the chances of him being a top tier microbiologist, a consummate mathematician + astrophysicist, a highly skilled engineer, a competent pilot, & a musician/programmer capable of splicing together a translation program are exactly ZERO.

I tried to read the book and was spectacularly disappointed. Apparently Weird is quite the odd duck too, claims there is no messaging in his books and that anything you see in there is just you projecting. Pure entertainment no depth he says, and he doesn't lean left...

I only did pizza for nine years, but after that (relatively) short time I got so used to the feel of dough that I could judge temperatures within two degrees by hand, nail weights without a scale, and get a full pie from phone to oven in twenty seconds. All labor is skilled labor.

I grew up in a small rural right wing area. Child gun suicides, actual pedophilia, murders, rapes, drug dealers galore, people building bombs and sniper rifles, the whole shebang. I never see stuff like that in the city. It was MUCH worse in small towns.

For a while, it was believed that women and gay men are born with a natural sense for aesthetics. In reality, straight men, particularly American male Protestants, have simply barred themselves from taking an interest in aesthetics because they think this makes them noble.
